Weird problem that has me stumped... before I start going nuts with it, I thought I'd check in here and see if it's just me or if this is a known prob.

I had everything set-up perfectly with movies & ripped DVDs triggering that lovely red D with beautiful sound. MCE2005 set-up & test would verify all speakers working as they should. Regular non-DD or DTS also worked as they should.

I came back after being away for a week, the system got a security update, and now when I try to play a movie that has DD or DTS encoding, it comes out as clicks and noise, and the receiver never switches over - just stays on PLII (or direct or whatever I have it set on).

I've tried restoring backup registry entries for my codecs (AC3 filter & ffdshow audio), no dice. Uninstall & reinstall, no dice. Go back to the system restore point I created before I left (after all these years I've finally learned to do that!) and all is well. Until XP complains about the update waiting to install- which when I do it, all goes wonky again.

Anyone else having this problem after the last update- or is this a me-only issue? Is there anything out there to help set audio settings in MCE2005 in some kind of digital stone?
