Outlet Extenders for Additional Drywall?

Hey everyone, I put this in another thread I had started but no responses. I am going to be putting another layer of 5/8" with Green Glue. I have some outlets on these walls and I need to extend them. I have gone to Lowe's and looked around but the only extender's I have found have been for outdoor boxes and $5 a piece. Looking in the electrical section I cannot find anything that appears that will work for me. Can someone post a picture, link, item #, brand, etc of what I need? It would be very much appreciated.

Hi,
Google "CARLON PVC ELECTRICAL BOX EXTENDER". I was at Lowes yesterday and I thought I'd seen them, but they're not on their web site.

i've bought them at HD in 3/8" and 3/4" depths. They have other sizes. Some stores have them, some don't. and they like to hide them, so ask somebody with an orange apron.

In our area, electrical inspectors generally will not call on a box if recessed back a bit if only sheetrock is exposed. They do not see it as "electrical connections exposed to combustible material" which specifically violates electrical code. It is when boxes are set back in cabinetry, wood siding... that the box extenders are a requirement.



You will need to get some longer, perhaps 2" long 6-32 screws as those supplied with the plugs will come up short of catching the boxes, with or without the extenders.

They should have them in lowes and HD. I have purchased several of these from Lowes. Possible you were looking in the wrong spot? I can't imagine your Lowes did not have them.

My Lowes ahd them, but they weren't easy to find. I've spent a lot of time in the Lowes electrical section over the past 6 months and still ahd to ask for help to find them.

I could not find them in my local HD and ended up getting the ones like CVanMeter has pictured from Menards. I didn't really like them because I had to extend the box due to adding 2" of sound treatment on my walls and had nothing to secure the box to (no drywall).
