I tend to agree with you. I have had 8 movies in My Cart at Amazon for at least 3-4 weeks now waiting for BOGO but it starting to look like it ain't going to happen....

I went to Circuit City today, and the only HD DVD they had was several boxsets of Heroes at $90 a piece!

I left them there.

OK I was very surprised today.

You will NOT see these titles online, but I happened to stop into the Woodbridge, Ontario location (or Vaughan) and was surprised to see that they got more of the cheap titles in????

No more Atonement, but they had.....

Derailed
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Evening
The Hitcher
Scary Movie 4
Balls of Fury
Shaun of the Dead
Pans Labyrinth
Brokeback Mountain (one copy)
Talk to Me

** VERY LIMITED NUMBERS **

Travelling, so got to a Best Buy and Circuit City in Salisbury, MD. Same results as Phila: BB had nothing, CC had several dozen titles, all at list price. WalMart had a dozen or so, at their usual prices. Blockbuster also had nothing, but the stores I found had never had them. There's one on the way home, so we'll see if I have any luck there.
Still looks like online is the better way to shop. And it's getting to the point that shipping costs less than gas!

Is that USD?I just checked and didn't see any at that price.
I went to my local Frys and most of their HD DVD's were regular price, they had about 150 titles in a 12ft section.

Circuit City has a "FIRE SALE" (Yes they even call it that) where you can get Arctic Tale for only $34.99. Don't walk, RUN! Deal of a lifetime!

BTW Amazon France has a BOGO on about 60 titles including Tripplets of Belleville etc. They also have Ghost Rider and Bridge to Terabinthia for 12.50Euro which makes them less than $20 each if you are ordering anyway.

None of the French titles in the BOGOF have English audio.

Ghost Rider is not in stock.

The rest can be picked up cheaper elsewhere.

Once you factor in shipping you're better off buying on Amazon.

Wow....Its a great deal and I am very tempted to take it.

However, my big fear is that once they get my personal info, I am going to start getting bombarded by neverending solicitations pleading that I become a "Member" of the "PBS Family" for a very low, ongoing monthly pledge.

Dont mean to offend anyone, but I am being serious. Will they hound me till Hell freezes over??

I just want to buy a dvd. (and nothing more)

So buy the set and then when they send you the first non-sales-related email tell you email program that they are spam. Then you will never see another email from them! I do that all the time. Typically the sales dept and the please join us dept have different emails, so should you order from them again in the future, the sales emails will still make it through.

Or you could, you know, opt-out of their emails. This way your ISP/mail provider won't be inclined to mark everything that's sent by PBS as spam for everyone, which is how the Bayesian filtering used by spam filters works.

Thanks,

But it is the phone number I am concerned with.....

According to the checkout cart, not only is your email mandatory, (and that's fine) but you must enter a phone number and that phone number MUST exactly match the phone number on file with the billing address of your credit card issuer.

I have never seen this type of mandatory requirement with any type of online checkout that I have dealt with. (that is what the security tab on the back of all credit cards is for now)

This phone number thing is basically suggesting to me that PBS is trolling for personal info to add to their contact database.

Added the PBS deal for Planet Earth.

Is the only difference between the BBC and Discovery Channel versions of Planet Earth the narration, and if so, does it really make a difference?
I guess that can all be avoided by using the Google Checkout option at the bottom. They give you the option to keep your e-mail address confidential.

No, the BBC version is longer. The Discovery channel version was apparently edited for the US broadcast to make room for commercials.

Not sure if that will work, but that's what my thinking was too - I was actually hoping for an additional $10 off, which google checkout sometimes has, but no luck. Maybe I'll just avoid the solicitation, but we'll see.

Thanks for the post... Repped... Been waiting for it to go below $30. :-D

I ordered this around 3 today, just got an email that it is back ordered. Gives a lead time of 2-4 weeks. Just a heads up. For the price, I can wait.
FYI on the Planet Earth BBC deal, it's been reported on another forum that people are getting "backorder" e-mails. Stating 2-4 weeks to ship, so just know that if you're going to order it. Great price though and worth the wait IMO.

Asking for the phone number during the online order process is not widespread...but not entirely uncommon either; I've ordered from a few sites that have asked for a phone number that matches the one your CC has on record.

Anyone know of any Best Buys or Circuit Citys that carry HD DVDs in the San Diego area? Thanks.

You don't need need English for Triplets of Belleville—there's little to no dialogue. The same for "Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait." I might pick those up—too bad the US dollar's so worthless.

However, I wouldn't buy any English-language movies if I couldn't watch them with their original soundtrack.

Those are really the only 2 in the BoGo list that are a decent deal (unless you speak french) but since you are paying the shipping anyway Ghost Rider and Bridge to Terabithia are wonderful transfers and less than $20 each shipped if you are alreaady placing an order.
