Help Needed for PS3 Optical Setup

Thread Starter
I connected optical audio output from my PS3 to a 6.1 Yamaha receiver, but I only get 2 channel signal. I tried every set up in my PS3, PCM, bitstream... but still can't get 5.1.

Is there anyone has the same problem?

When you go to audio, make sure you don't choose auto configure for the sound (I forget the exact verbage). You can manually choose what sound output (Dolby, etc). I had no problem using the optical to the receiver (an nice 10 year Denon!), and the HDMI for video to the tv.

If not, maybe there's a setting on your reciever you have to make.

Hope it helps.

Are you talking about sound out from games, or from playing DVDs?

Using bitstream audio will play 5.1 out from DVDs. However, I don't know whether the PS/3 does real-time encoding of bitstream from games like the Xbox does or not. I'm using the PS/3 with HDMI multi-channel, and that works just fine.
