How many people on here own LG BH200 ?

Please check in
I dumped my Panny DMP-BD30 that had zero personality ( don't ask ), and got LG BH200.
So far it's been a roller coaster ride. Although in fairness, it did play on the 2nd go and without issues every disc I threw @ it . Which I'd do right away.
In terms of sound quality in sends the Panny packing. I use 2-channel output ( bedroom set-up ) and at long last can decipher what the hell people are saying. Without having to periodically raise the volume.
It more or less sailed thru jaggies, flag and detail tests on HQV demo. Images appear sharper and with more snap, if you will.
On the downside, the player's gamma is cranked way up. Luckily, my Kuro Elite allows to adjust the gamma level. Though I wish I could tweak it a bit more.
So far so not boring Will see how things progress from here.

I've got mine and bugs aside, I'll be keeping it until something better comes along. For all the chatter about bit streaming the new codecs out to an amp the combo player still is doing what I was looking for it to do. (If you look at the IDoBlu list, theres only two Blu players that do all the variations people look for that are not pricey, especially for 7.1 : http://www.idoblu.co.uk/page2%20Blu-ray%20Players.html )

The SD upscaling is good, and it's played all the discs I've put in it since the last firmware update. The only thing that may make me repalce it quicker or not is if LG fixes the 1080p24 output or not.

I have had good luck with a replacement after a updated one had to be returned. It plays everything that I have placed in it and it does an exceptional job on SD DVD.

The QDEO chip is remarkable in the quality it produces.

Given my previous bad update experience, that is someting I will not do for now.

Damn you have a Kuro and BH200 in your bedroom!? Nice!

Hey, we've got to form some sort of support group on here
Have you fellas tried to spin any - cough - difficult titles on it ? ( Yuma, Transformers etc..)
I took a couple Planet Earth discs ( on BR ) for a spin, and it was a walk in the park - pardon the pun

I own one and love it so far.

Mine works great after LG repair work!!!!!

I've had a BH200 for about 2 months. So far, it plays everything I've put in the drawer. Got warbled sound last night on a SD - first tiime for that. The real issue is its non-support of Dolby True and DTS Master audio formats. The LG website has a page that says it DOES support them without an astrisk that Dolby True is only 2 channel. I've got it hooked to a Denon 3808CI through an HDMI cable . I've tried every setting imaginable and the best I can do is 2 channel Dolby True and DTS Surround - which I assume is core. I've e-mailed "Neil" numerous times but as yet can not get an answer as to when or even if LG is going to issue an update. Anyone know anything different?
By Dolby tru, are you referring to the hd sound?
I have one and like it. I do have some occasional audio dropouts with all formats but am willing to live with it until they fix it...
Yes - Dolby True HD sound. I was just wondering if anyone had any confirmation that LG was going to update the unit.

On your lg player, go to the menu, select hdmi, then select multi-channel pcm. go to your receiver, and select "standard". Play a HD or BD disc, and your multi channel in gets displayed. you are getting either the true hd, or as close to it as you can get. I hear great sound that way, and denon techie told me that's the true HD , dts master lossless, etc., sound coming from your speakers.

I just received word from Crutchfield (NOT LG) that a firmware update is in the works to correct the issues that this and other forums have raised. ( iluvmyjvc - Thanks for the tip - but - LG claims that this rig is only out putting dolby true in two channel - it's not bitstreaming the "lossless" codec to the Denon - it can't - I'll try your idea regardless- what the hell) - in the meantime, I've requested a link to the page where we all could find this upgrade when it goes online. I'll be happy to pass along if LG (Neil) can answer.
Incidently, I think it's great that we have an HD winner, but those of us with combo players are going to get some great looking and sounding movies for pennies on the dollar here very shortly.

Latest from Neil (LG "tech" support guy) He was delighted to inform me that the update we are looking for was available now and proceeded to link me to the "Fixing Neverland" update. (I didn't want his home e-mail address....) stay tuned

Thanks for the info! I've been buying stuff from Crutchfield for years and trust them more than just about any other company out there. Hopefully they are right about this. With Toshiba's announcement, I am so, so close to buying the BH200 and building up my HD DVD library thanks to all the reduced prices that will be coming in the next few months. But, I promised myself I would not buy the LG or the Samsung until I knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD/MA were going to be supported ... and a confirmation that Blu-ray Profile 2.0 was coming would be great, too. Of course, if Toshiba announced a dual format player like so many of us are hoping, I'd be all over that.

Thanks, again and please keep us posted!

Is this update on their website? What does it fix? Could you post the link? Thanks!
The "update" that is out there fixes some little glitches on the first 100or so units shipped. That's it. No biggie in my book. Unless you have one of the very first units you don't need it. As I said, LG is, according to Crutchfield, putting together an upgrade to address the "lossless" sound issues. LG obviously rushed the 200 to the marketplace to beat Samsung to the Christmas retail shelves and should have held off until the player matched the specs on the box they shipped it in.
As a sidebar, the 200 has an ethernet connection - why not use it to update? Why this complicated download proceedure that has instructions that are 2 pages single spaced?
Someone in another forum said that LG is going to be using the ethernet connection to update the player after another firmware update. Search the LG forum.

They are going to have a new firmware update sometime in the next week or so. That is what I was told yesterday...

But what will it do??? I'm interested in audio support.
joerod - where did you get the info on the update?
Got an e-mail today (2/29) from Crutchfield. They called LG this morning regarding the update for loss-less audio upgrade on the BH200. The answer was "we're working on it" and "it'll be posted on the website when it's ready". No one could provide an eta. I have also sent "Neil" another note to see what his response is - just in case. I'll keep you posted.
And, as anticipated, here is Neil's latest response. I think I'll believe Crutchfield. -----------Reply to Customer Inquiry------------
Dear LGdoubter, We are delighted to hear from you as our Valued Customer. We appreciate your interest in this unit. According to the specifications, on this product, it is designed to output all the Surround Models in a PCM format. It is according to the design of the product that these are not in a Bitstream format. As such, we have no information about the inclusion of new features in a firmware update. If you have other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us again either via email, or by calling our customer service division at 800-243-0000 at your convenience. LGdoubter - just wanted to send a BIG THANKS to you for keeping us up to date and for doing all the investigative work. I know for people like me (that are waiting for the HD audio issues to be resolved before buying the BH200) the information you're providing from Crutchfield is much appreciated! Keep it up.

Hey, guys. You might want to check the official BH200 thread. A dude from LG has responded and has made some pretty awesome claims for the new firmware update.
No dates given but here it is:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showp...&postcount=584

If it comes, the LG BH200 should finally be:

1. TrueHD 5.1 compatible
2. DTS-HD MA/HR compatible
3. Profile 1.1 compatible
4. Properly support 24fps
5. No doubt it will fix more general disc playpack problems too.

If Osofast is on the money with what the new update will provide the BH200 will be the only one of it's kind. In the other thread I suggested to him that poor old Neal should get an update as well.
Anyone get an ETA yet?

Have not heard a peep from Osofast since then. Maybe he is real busy trying to test and find why the dropouts are occuring. On the BH200 poll, dropouts are the number one issue. Anyone not voted, if you have time, please let us know your experience on the poll post.
