Portable SACD?

Is there, or has there ever been, a portable SACD player available? I have a portable DVD player from Panasonic and it plays DVD-Audio too, but I can't recall seeing anything like that for SACD.

Wikipedia says

Many other vendors [apart from Sony] offer SACD playback
capabilities in their product lines, although none has offered
a portable
Walkman-style SACD player capable of playing the
high definition layer of an SACD. Most portable CD players will
play the conventional CD layer of a Hybrid SACD.

Not sure what the point would be though. SACD is all about hi-res sound, so the only purpose I'd see is taking it to a friend's house and playing an SACD disc in their surround system - not really what portable is supposed to mean, and I think it'd be a bit embarrassing for Sony to market such a device.

And hi-res sound can come in 2 channel stereo as well. Being a 2 channel stereo guy, that's the way I like my SACD.

Btw, a prototype portable SACD player, looking much like a portable CD player, was shown by Sony but was never marketed.

Personally, I would never take my SACD outside of the house. Heck, I don't even take my CD out of the house. It's all CD-R for me outside.

Will the Sony BDP-FX1000 play SACD? If so, I might return the Philips PB9001 I just bought!

Just rip your SACDs to flac or wav files and play them on anything.

You realize that's much easier said than done, right?
