Dual HDMI output Split A/V (video for Blu ray, better audio for SACD, according to the manual?)
HDMI from the HDMI 2 output of the Oppo 105 playing SACD to the HDMI input #5 of the Classe
(I also have the HDMI 1 output attached to the HDMI input #2 of the Classe for BD discs, better video?
My Classe settings
Signal Digital PCM. Sr :88K (the SACD I'm playing)
There is no analogue connection
It sounds excellent, but after reading the manual I was under the impression that using the HDMI 2 for the SACD or DVD Audio was the right thing. So I was curious why the DSD was converting to PCM, I think before it reaches the Classe. No complaints about the audio it's great, but how I am getting it is a bit uncertain.
I believe that if you want to listen to the DSD stream, from the Oppo, you will need to use analog outs from the Oppo to the 800 (since the 800 doesn't process DSD). Also, since you do have an HDMI connection to the 800 from the Oppo, you may have to break the HDMI handshake in order for the DSD to output correctly through the analog outs of the Oppo. I ran into this some time ago with my 83SE, when I was still using multi-channel analog connections. For the past couple of years though, I have been using HDMI for multi-channel SACD/ DVD-A listening. I have not been disappointed in the sound, IMHO.
I also believe that the idea for the multiple outs, on the 105, are mainly if you have multiple systems, or multiple displays, or your receiver/pre-pro is not 1.4 capable to pass through that video feed. Therefore having to run one HDMI out of the 105 to an older 1.3, or less, capable pre-pro for the audio, and an additional HDMI out of the 105 to your 1.4 capable display.
