Could the 32" be a different series?

I don't remember the exact model # but I think it was 5403.

Many thanks.

I will check tomorrow(Wednesday), I'm going out of town today and will be back at work tomorrow afternoon and will check. Any particular model? Odds are I will only be able to check the 32" and 42" models since I can't find the 47" or 52" yet.

I'm interested in the 42". Thanks again!

The Philips 42PFL7403D/27 shows up on Sam's Club website now, item #177677, listed for delivery only. I went down to my local club in California last night and I could see them just out of my reach in the stacks -- different packaging from last year's boxes and an opened display, wrapped in plastic wrap, definitely had the clear ring around the monitor. The sales associate said they had 10 of them and would be getting more, but that they couldn't sell them or even bring them down until April 18th.

Has anyone been able to get their hands on one of these (I'm looking at the 42PFL7403D/27)? Have there been any discussions, anywhere, in regards to compatibility issues (ie: prior models not fuctioning correctly w/ DirectTV), or other problems?
I just spoke w/ my local Sams here in Austin, TX and was also told they aren't going on sale there until 4/18.

One guy got a test unit from Philips awhile back. He gave a quick report saying all was well and then nothing. That could be a good or bad thing.

Ah. Okay. The 5403 series is a *much* different beast from the 7403 series. Same cabinet, but that's about it.

I'm interested in checking out a 52" 7403, are these carried in any stores? I figure I'll drive by my local Aaron's and Sam's and keep my fingers crossed.

Question:
Somewhere earlier in this thread input lag was mentioned. Video processing is an important factor to me, should I pass this set up? I'm looking for twitch control response in gaming. In other words, if I tap a button on my controller, I want to see it happen on the display yesterday.

I am totally in the same boat as you --- I hate input lag (enough to consider plasma), and there is speculation that these 7403's might be poor because a european Philips has massive input lag. It is not the same model as this one, but some folks speculate because both use the pixelpure hd processing that might cause lag... however this one does have a game mode (if I read it right the european one does not)... there is a very active thread on a UK forum avforum.com that goes over the problem in detail..

But the price is so good on these, I almost wish I could try em out!

I'm going to pass by Sam's Club after work today with the printout from their site of this model. Just on price alone I may pick one up. I remember seeing some quick take blog somewhere in which the Philips beat both the Sony and Samsung that were on hand for comparison according to the blogger. I'd really like to see this in action.
Just got back from Sam's. I saw the boxes up on the rack but they didn't have a display up. boxes said not to sell till the 17th. Kinda pissed since I was told they had a display up. Oh well, will have to wait a couple of more days.

That IS a steal since CNET said MSRP should be close to $1,700 when they were expected to come out (in March)....30% less is ALOT....anybody wonder why the price would be so much less for a new set early in its lifecycle ?

Do you think the 47" and 52" will see comparable declines from their suggested MSRPs of earlier this year ($2,000 & $,2700 respectively).
Is this thing noticably better than the 47PFL9732D? I just ordered that from Sam's Club about three weeks ago and the damn thing won't even get here until Thursday. I didn't even really need 47" and ambilight, I just want a TV with no motion blur, 120hz technology and a price that isn't as ridiculous as the XBR4 and the 71 series Samsungs.

The contrast, sound and motion enhancing seems a lot better on this newer model, I might just return the 47" I ordered without opening it and get this one. Though I did check the local Sam's Club and didn't see any of them.

Well if this does even come close to the listed specs it will smoke last years model. Philips got a lot of good press (outside of Engadget) on their 2008 line at CES this year.

Well remember the market is always changing. I think we'll see the 47" coming in around $1500-$1700 and the 52" at $1900-2200 at retail.

Philips TV said that this model would not have the same lag as the Euro model. However, I guess we'll find that out soon when a set gets into someones hands.

All the Sam's Clubs in Austin, TX are holding sales off until this Friday, 4/18. Does any one know of a place selling sooner? I would like to take a look at it myself before Friday if it's on display somewhere.

Thanks a lot. I actually ordered one. If it's not shipped tomorrow I'll try to cancel the order and pick one up on Friday. But getting in touch with a member service representative doesn't seem easy. I couldn't find a member service phone number on the web site.
I tried at my local club as well (Woodbridge VA by coincidence). They've got them but they won't even scan.

Will try tomorrow but my bet is on Friday.

So its been on display for a few days and management hasnt said a thing. Oh well...the guy who tried to buy it wasnt pissed or anything and said hed come back Friday.

Wow, that's a great price. I have a 42" Philips 720p 9631 plasma, and it's great. In fact, $2K is about what I paid for it in Sept. 2006.

I had planned to buy a big Philips plasma for the TV room and move the 42" into the bedroom, but then Philips stopped giving their best features to the plasma sets. My brother-in-law has a 1080p Sharp and it was pretty close to plasma; other LCD's I saw were really bad with motion blur and artifacts, but I guess 2 millisecond response/120 ghtz/1080p narrows the gap enough. I will most likely stay with Philips LCD rather than go to another manufacturer and stick with plasma.

I wish Philips made a bigger top-of-the-line 1080p LCD model, but it seems like 52" is the biggest I can get if I want to stick with Philips and not get a 60"-plus plasma from Pioneer/Panny (I love the features on the Philips like Ambilight, the AUTOMATIC format, etc).

Anybody know what a 60" 1080p LCD costs from whoever makes one ?

My local Sam's had about 6 42" models on the racks and said they'd be available for sale today (17th). Does anyone know where I can find the 52"?

According to the press release I linked in the first post, the 47" and 52" are due one and two months after the 42", respectively.

I have a feeling you'll see at least the 47" pretty soon as well. They do have it listed on their site. No 52" yet though.
Just ordered the 42' (bedroom tv.) at sam's and it will be ready for pick up tomorrow. I am gonna keep my sammy 4071f for a little bit just in case the Philips doesn't do it for me. But then again, for that price I think I will be happy LOL. Gonna pick it up as soon as I can tomorrow and try to post pics.
i just ordered one for pickup tomorrow. Had to join Sam's club, but that was only $35. They don't take major credit cards -- that is weak. I don't remember the last time I paid by check. You can use credit cards for on-line purchases, but their website would not let me purchase it online -- only arrange for in-store pickup.

I had originally wanted the 7603. Not really sure how Ambilight would work in our room -- the walls are painted a dark color. But if it only adds $100 to the price I figured I would get it. But with this kind of deal, holding out for the 7603 would add 400-500 and to me that is not worth it.
