i understand what you are saying...but even internally...and not-for-public----1.1 to 1.2 without something inbetween actually released...seems odd for them ...

Been transfering files for over a hour now and so far the unit isn't very hot at all. With my older one it would be hot enough to cook a egg on it.

So far,so good(knock on wood) **

waiting for those all important mkvhd's to be tested?

mine's been running for 2 hours now w/o a heat sink...and it's lukewarm....it's good you got that screwed up one replaced...

The only problem so far is that every time I eject a DVD from the drive and insert a new one, the USB icon is disabled so I cannot access the USB-DVD (the USB-DVD is still powered, but not played). I have to unplug the USB cable, and replug, and the 6500A recognizes the USB-DVD again. It is quite annoying inserting the disk, unplug and replug all the time. Does anyone have a trick / workaround for this issue that can help me? Thank you very much.

and you are running the latest fw? they mentioned something about compatibility in the latest to-do list

i have been using an external bluray in a usb case without issues

i agree with the suggestion to supply a sample

get ahold of mkvmerge gui and you can extract a small piece of the offending video very easily (use google)

you should also use your player on the pc side and get some stats as to bitrate/codec/framerate etc etc

They've never explained their numbering system to me and I've never actually tried to decipher it. Suffice to say, they're not American programmers and they don't necessarily follow American-programmer conventions and customs. (Another Korean company with which I've dealt didn't bother with changing version numbers on non-major code revisions at all until their American partners complained about how confusing it was for them)

It's just a number--don't over interpret it.

I made a sample. I looked on the DViCo site and don't know where or who to send it too?

Register on the FAQ/Q&A site and post saying that you have an example of a problem file type for the M-6500A. Describe what goes wrong when you play it and ask for instructions to upload it to the DViCo FTP.

I think the one they got is the 3rd batch. The clocks works and the heat problem is gone. I'm only having some mkv files not work right. Other then that it works good.

Thanks. I found that faq and emailed them about my problem. I never ftp'ed in my life and wouldn't know how too? I did tell them how should I go about getting it to them?

Ok, had issues with random lockups...that I’m rather sure were _NOT_ strictly heat issues.

New 500G Cuda from Segate and it works great. Haven’t had a lock up yet. Fan now set back down to normal and even after 2 hours unit is not more than warm to touch...

SO spending the cash for a good drive seems to be a good move (as usual) Also, have yet to try a quality USB drive but the cheap USB drives I did try gave the same results as the old buggy internal... so I suspect when I do find a good one it will work fine.

TP or Raven – Is there a way to tell from the outside if it is 1st 2nd or 3rd batch?
Oh and maybe something new but I see Beta versions at 1.2.2 ,1.2.3 and 1.2.23

i have been using all sorts of wacky usb cases (20 at last count) all with 750s, 500, 320s, 2 400 IDE, some 250s

azio, old maxtor, antec, hell, I have even used usb cable converters like the one granite makes, 2.5 drives external cases, WD my books, iomega...all sorts...and ALL work ...the only thing is that the 6500 unlike the 4100 doesn't like "extended" partitions
post #676 of 3441
is there going to be anyway to retrofit the improvements to the older rev unit?

Same here. I found some USB flash drives that didn't get recognized, but after I sent samples to DViCo they found and fixed that problem too.

Last I read from DViCo's website, they plan to replace all of the early units with the improved ones.

Dunno, since I've not seen anything but an original-batch unit.

Kei would know though.

Actually, I wouldn't be able to by sight. I would ask your vendor, they should be able to tell by serial number. We haven't received the new units yet, and DVICO will announce how they will take care of updates shortly.

At the bottom of the page... Dates are way old so don't know what's up with that...
http://www.tvix.co.kr/eng/support/betafirmware.aspx

If the link doesn't work go to the tvix.co.kr website > Downlaod > Beta...

Oh also forgot to mention, before I was doing FAT32 now using NTFS... This is probably the main reason everything works now.
No more borrowing things from my MAC friends...

??? Thinking that maybe this was the key to some people's problems, I used Partition Magic to convert a primary partition to a logical one inside an extended partition...and the M-6500A liked it just fine. How are you creating yours that don't work? (I have found that HDD formatted as system drives for Thinkpads aren't recognized by TViX when put into USB enclosures and used as-is, but I expect that has to do with the funky hidden IBM "system recovery" stuff on the drive, which one probably wants to get rid of via reformatting anyway, as it's just taking up space)

Those are misplaced fw images for the M-4100. Don't try to load them into the M-6500A--if you were to succeed you'd almost certainly turn the box into a doorstop.

Can someone please tell me where to send my sample of my MKV that turns my tvix black screen then freezes?

I used windows to format a 750g pata drive into 7 logical partitions for my mvix. My 6500 couldn't recognize any of it. I had to reformat using primary partitions for tvix to see it. I think I read in the manual that the 6500 can detect up to 4 partitions, which is the maximum number of primary you can have on a single drive. I've had no luck with logical partitions...

just normal administrative tools in control panel, extended partition, make logical drive etc etc...they worked in the 4100

so i used partition magic to convert the extended partition to a primary and all is well on the 6500.

I have used boot drives for dell machine that have that 30mb hidden partition without any problems, they show up in the manager

If you posted to the Q&A/FAQ site, as I understand that you did, you'll be getting a reply (perhaps only posted to the web forum?--not sure about that part) from DViCo.

So the mystery lives on.

Dell is not so devious as IBM, whose hidden stuff on HDD fails to show any traces in any HDD utility that I've ever tried.
