Help Needed - Pana BD10 + XR700 7.1 issues

I'm hoping someone with some tech knowledge can help me out with this one.

When I do a speaker test thru my Pana XR700 amp it get the test tone thru all 8 speakers in order as I should. But when I do the test thru my Pana BD10 no noise comes from the back 2 speakers. When it gets to their turn it goes silent..

Any ideas why?

I have a feeling this is why I'm feeling only minimal rear prescence from my 7.1 setup...

cheers

Thats normal. For some reason the panny doesnt produce sound in that test tone for the back channels.

Can you give more info on this problem? Did you try the SPL meter yet?

The BD10 gives me test tone sound from all speakers. What is your setup from the BD10 to the receiver? HDMI, Optical, analog?

Shamus, Sorry, at the risk of sounding ...umm not very technical, what's a SPL meter? and how would I do it?

Maybe it does work? I just can't hear anything thru either the test tone or thru 3.10 to Yuma from the rear speakers. Getting sound fine thru the side channels [rear surrounds] but not back surrounds - as far as i can tell anyway [ie could be so faint i cant hear it!!]

rstand - so you DO get a test tone in that section of BD10 setup menu? I am connected via HDMI only.

Have you gotten sound on it before?
If not, you have to actually enable the back speakers on the 700.
Have you tried the test tones on your receiver?
Did you use the auto setup feature on the 700? It does an ok job.

SPL meter is an instrument that measures sound pressure. Pretty cheap at Radio shack and should always be used when setting up your system.

I'll see if i can find a SPL today.

Yes i have enabled them via the 700 and the test tone works thru the 700 just not thru the BD10.

Do you have the BD10? In the manual it mentions that if your speaker sizes etc can be set thru the amp then in the 'Connections' 'speakers' setup menu set to 2 channel rather than multi channel. Should i do this? I haven't yet? It just sounds wrong to me...2 channel!!
