could I have got something better?

I recently purchased a new receiver, the yamaha rx-v661, and a new pair of klipsch rf10 floor standing speakers.
My question to you is I paid 450 for the pair and some speaker wire, could j have got a better set of speakers for the money?

I've always liked klipsch sound but I feel they are a little lacking in the lows now I know I'll be getting a sub next month and that would take care of that but what other speakers are there out there to consider at that price?

your rf10's only have 4.5" woofers and even with two in each column, bass will be a bit lacking. You are correct, your new subwoofer will fill the low frequency "hole" very nicely, so don't start a case of "buyers remorse" and "second guessing" until you can hear your setup. Probably the only thing that will come close at that price are the Polk RTi8's on sale at Frys.com - but that will involve mail order.

These will also be internet direct....but very highly reviewed in the eD threads on this forum.

what speakers would you recommend?

I would reserve judgement until you get your sub. If you ask 10 people on here what is the best speakers for 450 dollars, you will get 10 different answers. Some may do this better, some may do that better...but does it make them better for you? Who knows.

Unless you get some serious big-time speakers you will want to run a sub with them anyway. Those ED speakers are really nice but most people run a sub with them as well.

You might find with the sub you are totally happy with your overall sound.

Sorry, I just couldn't resist.

Speakers are way to subjective to state with any authority that one sounds better than another. Since you bought them, I'm sure you listened to them first and liked their sound. So just enjoy and don't second guess your purchase.

Even then you would want a powered sub for HT applications. Even "serious big time speakers" don't allow for the flexibility of location which is critical for LFE. Also, the extra load placed on the amplifier section of your receiver or dedicated amp, by having to power LFE can create issues in large rooms or at high listening levels.
