HDMI 1.3 channels Deep Color - however, if you research it there is next to no content being produced with it presently but a few High end HD Camcorders and Ultra HD Camera's which most cannot afford. Hence, why be concerned or bothered as it doesn't truly exist in the present tense for what you'll be viewing and it doesn't mean the capability is not there but you require source for it to be seen. Somewhat a featureset that has been falsely promoted by most CE manufacturers. The capability will be there when the industry catches up but legacy content won't have it.
It certainly would not be a step back - Sony rarely takes steps back.
I believe it has better response times and as mentioned improved CR's and of course more space efficient than many of the current models it appears.
