Help Me Pick The Best 46-47" LCD From These Choices Please

Hey all. I'm in the market for a new tv and BB has some pretty good sales going on right now. I have a lot of choices listed here, but I just listed all of the 46-47" lcd's that they had below $2k right now. I will be using this for mostly watching tv, and also playing PS2 (via component), and Wii. I have DirecTv, but do not have the hd box yet.

Westinghouse TX-47F430S (1499.99)
Toshiba Regza 47HL167 (1499.99)
HP LC4776N (1649.99)
LG 47LC7DF (1699.99)
Samsung LN-T4665F (1849.99)
Samsung LN-T4661F (1899.99)
LG 47LBSD (1969.99)
Sony Bravia KDL-46V3000 (1999.99)
HP MediaSmart SL4778N (1999.99)
Philips 47PFL7432D (1999.99)
Sony KDL-46V2500 (1999.99)

Thanks for looking. I am leaning more towards the Philips right now, mainly because of the good reviews that I have read on here. But things can always change.

I love my Samsung LN-T5265 which is just a bigger version of the 4665.

I'm in the same situation as you, and from what I can tell, the Samsung 65F seems to be the best choice, but I'm interesting in hearing from more informed individuals about this as well. I'm using DirecTV with a PS3.

I have the Westinghouse LVM47w1 which was the predecessor to the TX series. I only have OTA HD that I receive through a HTPC with an ATI HDTV Wonder and the picture is amazing- especially on CBS which broadcasts in 1080i here in Atlanta. After looking at all the 47in monitors before buying, I was convinced that most of the TVs that BB had on display were not set up properly... maybe on purpose. The LVM47 never looked as good as some of the others, but when I got it home and fed it a good strong signal and set it up properly, it was amazing. So honestly, I would have to say that it doesn't really matter that much. Plus you won't have all the other TVs next to it to compare it to. Any of the TVs in your list will look great if you have a good signal and set it up right. I would check the threads for each of the TVs you are considering and see if there are any complaints that are deal breakers for you. That might narrow the field down a bit. After that, it is all value for the $ in my book.

First off, unless you really need ambilight, Costco has the Phillips 7422 (identical to 7432 minus ambilight) for 1499.99. Overall the 1999.99 seems higher than ive often seen it.

My recomendation is the Samsung 4665F or the Phillips. Basically whichever you can find cheaper.

I personally have a 47PFL7422 and I love the thing.

Eric

From my experience in reviewing and comparisons the past 3 yrs I'm left with the above - some of the other panels you are considering are 8 bit panels and ten bit is a huge difference.

I would add the 71 series Samsung though it may cost more your going to married to it's PQ for a number of years just amortize and prorate over the life of the panel let's say 8 years and whats a few hundred dollars to take it up a notch IMO. I left off XBR4 due to costs must be above your budget. Also, you left off the Toshiba 177 series which has advanced processing but often BB only carries the 167 which is not as good - the Toshiba has won a number of shootouts where the Green issue has been tweaked out.

While some of those others look good like the Philips I have NEVER seen a single Phillips match the higher tier panels that said "BUY ME" to my eyes. Look beyond size and price and cross off anything that's still 8 bit panel and processing - if it's 8 bit trash it from your list.

Even a budget level 720P Sony S3000 will destroy a 1080P 8 bit panel because of the ten/ten equation quadruples details and up to 64 times the color details and deeper blacks, which is the reason I recommend the "V" 1080P bigger brother above.

Thanks all. I didn't even really know about the 8 bit versus the 10 bit, as I'm pretty new to all this stuff. I'm going down there today and will have to look at them first, but I'm pretty sure I'm torn between the 4665F and the V3000. But I will definately compare them all and will pick the best one that fits me personally. Thanks again. This site has taught me so much in so little of a time.

Hi Eric.
I think the best LCD from this list is Sony Bravia KDL-46V3000.
I just interested why with such big prices you have provided us with?
For example if you go through http://www.testfreaks.com/ and look for Sony KDL-46V3000 you'll see that the best price there is $1,549 (instead of yours $1999.99).
Toshiba 47HL167 - $1,249 , HP LC4776N - $1,449 etc.. ect..
Try to compare yourself

Actually the Sony KDL46V3000 can be had for less than $1700 at sams. It's just listed as a different model number. For these online sites we have to pay a lot of shipping charges.

The main reason for the higher priced tv's is because that was the prices that BB had right now, and they also had 36 months no interest financing. That was the biggest factor. I ended up not getting tv today (basically because the salesman was a know-it-all A**H***), but a buddy of mine did buy the 4661 Samsung. We set it up tonight, and have not calibrated it yet, but it looks good. I think I'll be going elsewhere and getting either Sammy 5265F, or the Sammy 5687S rear projection.

get the V3000 i promise u wont be disappointed
their financing is 2 years now.. no big deal

For you guys recommending the Samsung LN-T4665F, how does that work in a brighter room. My parents are looking for a ~46" LCD for their upstairs living room, which has a fair amount of windows in it.
Thanks
Mike

Check around on prices they can all be had for alot less if you shop around/price match use rebates, etc. I am trying to talk the wife into letting me spend alittle more and getting the 5265 for under $1600.

Circuit City has an Olevia 47" for less than $1100, today only. Don't know the quality, but that's a great price.

It has an awesome picture but is even more reflective than most plasmas.

ewatts,
what did you think about the Samsumg 4661 you and your friend set up? I did the same as you. I went to BB and thought I was getting a great deal so I bought a 42" LG. Last night I found the same tv at Fry's for $200 less. after I return the LG I'm thinking of switching to the 46" Samsung, but want to make sure I'm getting better, and not just bigger.
thanks

It was pretty good right out of the box. We didn't take the time to calibrate it yet, but we played some Guitar Hero on PS2 and also some Wii Sports and the PQ is pretty good. With some minor tweaking here and there it should be perfect. All in all I am very impressed with it.

ewatts, I concur with westa6969 on the following two being your best bet from given list, they are also in my current final running after much review:
Samsung LN-T4665F (1849.99) (see link to review below)
Sony Bravia KDL-46V3000 (1999.99)

Dmikester, per you question on how the Samsung LN-T4665F will handle a bright room, see the test below. In a nutshell, it is more susceptible due to the glossy screen coating it has. But it is this coating that (reportedly) allows much deeper black levels on an LCD. From link below: "this shiny screen also makes this LCD TV more prone to glare when used in a brightly lit room under uncontrolled lighting - sort of similar to what you get with a plasma display."

I am on the fence myself as to whether go Plasma vs. LCD and I had my mind set on Sony or Panny (the Sony Bravia v3000 LCD or Panasonic TH-50PZ700U Plasma) until I started to read some Samsung LCD and Plasma reviews. Now I am salivating for PQ, connectivity options, and picture settings that Samsung 46" LCD and 50" plasma have to offer, ie saves picture settings for different modes, USB support (also firmware upgrades via USB), 3 HDMIs, pixel scrubbing utilities on the plasma, etc.

OK, so the increased glare makes me want to look for something different. Is there a good LCD alternative to the LN-T4665F that has less gloss/glare? Basically I'm looking for the best 46" LCD for a brighter room in the $1200-$2000 range.
Thanks

FTW. I've seen most of these sets personally during the last several months in making my decision to upgrade my Pio 5070 to something i like. I finally settled on an XBR4 but would have had no problem going with the V3000 as it has an outstanding picture. The Bravia engine really pops that image out and catches your eye; at least it did in my eyes.

For maximum value out of your $2k, i'd seriously consider the Samsung 4669. I'd say this set may be tops out of all the choices you listed.

You can get a lnt4671 from the big river for 2k

why choose anything less?
I am not familiar with the Samsung 4669 but curious now. I believe the Samsung 4661 is almost identical to the 4665 with exception to having a NON glossy screen and it is less than the 4665.

I spent a few hours staring at the wall of lights in BB last night. Mostly comparing the Sony V3000 to the Samsung 4665. I must say raven69david is right about the V3000 picture. It jumps out with vivid color and excellent detail in shaded areas and the price is just within your range. On the style side of the equation, I am not a fan of the circa 1995 bezel appearance on the Sony but at 10' while watching a movie in the dark who cares I guess. The Sammy 4665 looked excellent with deep colors as well. Maybe a hair less detail in the shaded areas. Even with the fluorescent lights, the reflective screen did not bother me and would not keep me from buying. So still on the fence. Keep in mind no calibration on these at all so your results will vary.

To add to the equation the Samsung 4671 which incorporates 120 Mhz refresh rate. WOW. Absolutely floored at how realistic that picture is. It also has the glossy screen, but again did not distract me even in the brightly lit store. That is the first picture I have seen that I could throw money down walk away with no more questions in my mind....except where did I get the extra money from. It does have steep cost for that feature. Gorgeous picture though.

Hope this helps some, anybody else have further feedback on these models in this range?
