Let's hope so.

Great news! I would buy KC and more PT in 5.1.

ITCOTCK has been coming out on SACD now for about 3 or 4 years. I'll believe it when I see/hear it (any KC hirez discs). Fortunately for KC fans most of their CDs are very well recorded.

Steven Wilson is one busy man!

Pooperscooper is right. AFAIK all King Crimson albums were remastered in HDCD format. All of them are very well recorded, so IMO I'd have a hard time trying to decide whether the SACD version is better in any way or not. I mean, the stereo SACD version which I suppose will be also included in the disc.

Currently, Leff and Wilson are "waiting on Robert Fripp [who guested on PT's Fear of a Blank Planet and Nil Recurring] to hear Steven's work on some of the older KC stuff before he gives us the green light to proceed."

I'm sure Fripp will give the go-ahead for this immediately.

These will be DVD-Audios!!

I'd just love to hear hirez Discipline/Beat/3 of a Perfect Pair in stereo. The initial cd releases are only average (I just reordered the remasters but no one is gaga over them, at least not anywhere on the net). The great thing is that the dynamics and subtleties of the Levin/Bruford/Belew version of Robert Fripp's gang is so ripe for hirez treatment. And I'm a surround geek, but I don't care if they're 5.1, as long as the stereo layer at least gets a treatment.

That is correct. I have them all in HDCD and they sound great.

This is beyond awesome. You just made my day/month/year.

Fripp's Soundscapes in 5.1 would be quite amazing I'd imagine, as would his earlier work with Eno (if the source materials were worthy of 5.1 treatment...)

Regarding this 5.1 thing:
"The more I look at it,
the more I like it.
I do think it's good."

"I carried it around with me for days and days,
Playing little games,
Like not looking at it for a whole day,
And then looking at it,
To see if I still liked it.
I did!"

I'd redo my whole collection in DVD-A in a heartbeat. However, I can't decide which song I would want to hear first in 5.1.

21st cent. Schizoid vs. Talking Drum/Larks Pt 2 vs Red vs. Sleepless

For all you KC fans, if you haven't already done it, a must read is "In the Court of King Crimson", a book written by Sid Smith. Excellent. Unfortunately it's a tough find for a reasonable price.

Larry,

Never read the book, but I'll try to find it. Good news on the KC 5.1 mix. Any of you ever seen this band live?

Did some posts (regarding KC live) get deleted?

I know I read them recently.

Yes, I think some data was lost from the crash on AVS yesterday.

saw KC twice in detroit, once in 69 and again shortly thereafter----incredible experience---very,very loud----had trouble hearing for days----one of the few touring bands who used their own sound system in a club setting---go to Wolfgangs Vault to hear them live from their early days

Yup. In May of 84, Three of a Perfect Pair tour, Paramount Theater Seattle. I took 2 friends who weren't familiar but are open minded musically. We were all blown away. Those guys were instant KC fans.

I saw the League of Crafty Guitarists in Oct, 1990, at The XXXXX in Ballard, damn I can't remember the name of the venue and I saw a lot of concerts there, Bert Jansch, John Renbourn & Robin Williamson, Richard Thompson, The Bodeans, Leo Kottke. Ah got it! The Backstage. Cool, small, old place, I'd guess about 3-400 seats all good.

The League of Crafty Guitarists was really a unique show. About 12-14 guys all playing identical Ovation guitars. It's been years now but there was one song where each member played one note of the song in succession. Closed my eyes and it sounded like a single musician.
Man I haven't thought of that in years, Thanks for jogging my memory.
BTW, If King Crimson does come out in DVD-A, instant buy of all titles for me.

This is great news. I hope they release the Wetton-era albums soon - my favorite lineup.
Yes, I too saw the Three Of A Perfect Pair tour. Second row center! Wow. Can vividly remember Adrian's colorful garb and guitar, and Tony's bright yellow TOAPP-themed bass. (Actually my memory is helped tremendously by the Live in Japan video too... ).

When they did Larks Tongue In Aspic Part II I about died and went to heaven. Incredible.

September news from the Fripp's diary:

Quote:

we are listening to Steven's surround-sound mix of Lizard.

For the first time I have heard the Music in the music, throughout the album, this including even the sessions at Wessex Studio sessions (the second half of 1970). The music is now audible, redeemed by Steven's love of the album & the quality of his mixing.

Lizard is not an album that fits into stereo, and 5.1 provides the space, dimensionality & air needed.

Lizard has contributions & the participation of two people who continue to hold & articulate a high level of angst & personal animosity towards myself, now for almost four decades. The Lizard sessions marked the sudden decline in my relationships with both Peter Sinfield & Gordon Haskell. The continuing unpleasantness, plus my dissatisfaction with the final mix & production, has spoiled my relationship with the album & the many good ideas struggling (and before) mostly failing to be heard.

As of today, and for the first time, I can hear & enjoy the album & the music. The rest of it is superfluous. Peter & Gordon both have deserved success in their professional lives & have taken advantage of their access to media, online & hard copy, to present their own feelings & state their cases. So, hopefully, a happy ending is now available.

At Wilson World HQ we were intending to listen to Steven's 5.1 mix of Red as well, but after 2.5 hours of the intensity & information level of Lizard, my brain moved to pickled in extremis & I left, dribbling, for DGM HQ. A straightforward journeying to DGM HQ, arriving at the end of the afternoon.

Yeah, hearing that the back catalogue is getting the surround treatment is pretty exciting. Since the multi-tracks for 21st Century Schizoid Man are missing , I wonder how they will deal with that when they get to In The Court...
Talking about it is nice, but having UPS deliver discs to my doorstep would be nicer.
