Any way I will give it another shot.
To reciprocate your open mindedness, I gave The Flower Kings another shot - just listened to the previews from Amazon for The Sum of No Evil.
I finally realized what it is that makes me shy away - the horn-sound Hammond B3 organ stuff (or whatever you would call the keyboard/organ sound that permeates the Amazon sample for the song One More Time). That is the essence of ELP and early Genesis for me, it's been done and I'm done with it, and I just can't get over it. All of the samples seem to have that "ELP mixed with early Genesis Hammond B3" essence, so I can't just dismiss one or two songs while appreciating the rest - they are all marinated in that sound.
That, and the lead singer has succeeded in completely emulating Peter Gabriel's vocal styling. So like your comment against PTree's vocals, when modern bands are seemingly trying to sound exactly like a particular vocalist from a classic Prog band, I just can't appreciate anything else that might be going on.
I like RPWL for example, but at times they sound too much like David Gilmour, both vocally and guitar-wise, and that is a limitation, IMHO, even though that is why they seemed so appealing at first. I appreciate their non-Floydian content more than the Floydian content.
Sorry for going so far off-topic...
All of this IMHO obviously,
