Yeah I would pay the overnight fee but as was stated earlier this is been in
the works for awhile and no disk has materialized.

I can't imagine Mr Wilson taking the time to do the mixes if they aren't going to be released. So it's just a case of wait-and-see. Hopefully by Christmas.

They're all being done it seems, and surely for release.

Then it would probably not be released.

Although the same was true for India on Roxy Music's Avalon and they made a pseudo-surround track out of it, anyway. Not as important a track, though.

Is that the sub he's using, next to his computer?



I hope these sound better than the definitive remixes, which I find to be a bit harsh (perhaps compressed).

Fripp's diary has been updated with info stating that the 5.1 mix of Wake is to be worked on next and... surprise - gasp ...maybe the muti-track of Schizoid Man has been found...

Because the mastering was being done by Simon Heyworth, I figured the 5.1 would be DSD>SACD. But there is no mention of DSD, so I wonder what format the surround layer will ultimately be in.

I have been on a lunitic binge since around June when I completly re-did my entire home Theater/Music system and have been buying everything in 5.1/Hi-Rez music (SACD, DVD-A, DTS, HDCD it's all good) I can get my hands on (still waiting for the Genesis 1970-1975 and the Doors Perception boxes!) and Crimson in 5.1 or even just Hi-Rez stereo, as most of my Crimson is 1st or 2nd generation cd's with some on vinyl only, so this puchase will be a no brainer for me...as long as my money holds out that is LOL! Just hope we don't have to wait long!

Can't wait for this one. Just hope I have the money to buy KC and the Genesis box set when they become available

Most of my King Crimson is on Vinyl (except for the later stuff). I would love to have any/all KC remixed into hi rez, especially if done by SW!

Robert Fripp's latest diary entry (Dec. 2nd 2008) has another teaser about "In the Court..." and a 5.1 mix:

"News from David: the unmarked 8-track mystery tape in the DGM archives is the original master of Schizoid Man. The implication: a 5.1 mix of ITCOTCK is now feasible."

According to the brand new Sound & Vision magazine I got today, this IS definitely going to happen with surround sound guru and Porcupine Tree founder/guitarist/singer Steve Wilson at the mixing helm for every KC album. This March (not long from now), both the classic albums Red and Lizard will be released in 5.1 DVD-A. The plan is to issue 2 album titles each year for the next year or so, with ITCOTCK coming out this October. The writer, Ken Richardson, states he has heard the new surround mixes for Red and Lizard and we won't be disappointed. SWEET!

I'm all over this as well but why oh why do they f*ck with the release order?
Release the damn things in original order or reverse order at least rather than, imo, the worst first, i.e., Red and Lizard.

The last KC incarnations will benefit the most from the remastering\\mixing\\surround work and are my favorites

You post said they are releasing 2 a YEAR? Seems like its got to more than that plus you posted they are DVD-A not SACD.

2 releases a year until something changes...with an extra this year for ITCOTCK. Steve Wilson only does DVD-A, not SACD, so that's what we'll be getting.

I would think DVDA rather than SACD try looking at teh store on Robert fripps website check out the formats.

Steve Wilson only does the mix not the marketing and distribution which will decide which format will be released on what market, but I welcome either over the lossy encodes like the Rhino Genesis sets.

This is awesome! My favorite band of all-time. I have most all their albums on Mini-LP format (ITWOP and ITCOTCK on Gold-Disc.), and they sound great. All the current, regular, US versions I've seen say they are 24bit digitally remastered by Robert Fripp. So it will be interesting to hear if there is a difference. I don't really care about 5.1, just the stereo mixes are fine with me. I will definitely double dip on the KC catalog in Hi-Rez...

BTW: I've seen a few posts on this topic, and anyone looking for a good deal on the Genesis 70-75 boxset look no further than Amazon UK. That's where I imported mine from, a while ago, and it was only about $85usd, for the DTS 5.1 96/24 with SACD Box. Just make sure you have a universal region player for the DVD-A discs..One hell of a deal considering places like Elusive Disc want over $200.00

Gawd, this will be awesome but I want them all at once!

Patience sir, patience.
They are happening, and it is an ongoing project that will see light of day this year, although as already reported not all at once.
AFAIK, The plan is to release 2 or 3 every month as individual titles so that in the current economic climate fans do not have to splash for a full boxed set but can pick the titles they want.

Fortunately, I have almost infinite patience for anything SW touches - I'd rather wait until he's happy and got it "just right", because so far I really like pretty well everything he's touched. Not saying I want to wait forever, but an extra month or three is acceptable (or more... Hello "Recordings" re-release, I'm talking to you!).

Speaking of which, I feel like listening to some IEM...

Well, I almost reached for that instead (since some is in 5.1), but I felt like some of that Krautrock inspired stuff. Plus there are a couple amusing bit on Escalator to Christmas.

The IEM stuff is actually good material for a 5.1 treatment. I wonder whether SW would ever consider going back to those master tapes and doing some magic?

So, the first two are supposed to be here in March.. But how will we know the release date, or where we can even buy these from? Everyone still seems so in the dark about this project.

Looking at Mr Fripp's blog, he hasn't posted since 1 March. So maybe he's just a little too busy with final arrangements for the surround releases? Maybe? Hopefully?

Or he's on vacation in Greece or somewhere and offline...

Yeah, if indeed they are planning a release in March, I would have thought they'd start pitching it in advance of sales.
I emailed DGM and got no reply. I later asked about the releases in the Guest Book on dgmlive which resulted in a comment from Sid Smith essentially saying "keep your eye on the DGM news page".
So something seems to still be happening but they are being pretty opaque about it.
Also, Mr. Fripp's diary has been updated to March 6 but has no updates regarding surround releases.
