How long do you think it will be before we see HD70 quality projectors for $600?

So around Q2 2007 I was doing my research for my investment in the HD world and I almost went with an Optoma HD70 for $900 before I realized it would be a bitch to set up in my dorm, lamps are expensive, and I'd need to buy a screen so it would cost considerably more than $900. Anyway skip ahead to the present and I've ended up with a 32" Sharp Aqous, I love it it's a great little dorm TV and HD stuff looks phenomenal on it especially since I sit very close to it for it's primary purpose: Games. The thing is mere hours ago I got my first taste of Blu when I fired up my shiny new copy of Casino Royale on my PS3 and HOLY GOD IT'S PRETTY! Problem is I know my eyes aren't even coming close to resolving all the detail packed onto the screen from my normal movie viewing distance on my bed, which I confirmed when I moved about 4 feet from the screen (my gaming distance) and everything looked even better.

So getting to the point I'd like to invest in a projector since I'll be in an apartment next year. I don't wanna spend a lot of cash though especially since I just bought a new TV (even though I got it for a freakin steal at under $600 new) so when do you think projectors that perform as well as an Optoma HD70 or a Mitsubishi HD1000U (these were the budget kings last time I was shopping) will be readily available around $600 or $700? I don't expect this to be anytime soon and I'm definitely prepared to wait a while but I just wanted to get a general idea. With the steadily declining prices in TVs I'm hoping projectors are following a similar path.

watch bb they have been selling hd-70s out at 499 (if you can find one). If not the hd32 (rebadged hd70) is 799 on CC.com

I think the time is now.

The hd32 is already regularly at that price, it is exactly like the hd70, but was developed for a price club. The HD 70 has a seemingly constant $200 rebate which gets it down to around $750. The Acer PH530 is easily found in the $700 range. while not constant the hc1500 is often discounted, and the hc3000u can be found cheap at places closing them out.

I am waiting until the LCD 720P projectors regularly hit this point, which is probably only a month or two off.

I got a HD32 for 699 at CC and a 100" screen open box special at CC for $99 a few weeks ago. There are deals out there you just have to watch for them.

Wow that's good news then. I won't be able to buy anything until this summer probably so maybe I'll be able to pick one up for even cheaper by that point.

I think $699 is the new $1000 for 720P projectors.

Should be soon. I got my Sharp DT-500 for $762 total. It was on the most popular auction site, but you can buy great square trade warranties for only 10% of your bid price.

How about TODAY!!!! $399 clearance at Best Buy! Started off at $699, but got the price worked down to $399 since it was the floor model w/ 600 hours used up already.

what store did you goto? I live in Big Rapids, MI and come to Traverse City often!

I actually went to one of the store's in Grand Rapids. From what I recall the TC store had one but they were not going to let it go for any less than something like $900 but you might be able to talk the manager to less since other stores are. I also think that the Kalamazoo store had one left in stock as well.
