Done some research, here are my choices ($600ish range)

So, I've spent the last couple days tearing through threads in this forum, enough to make me crazy, but I think for the price range i'm trying to stay in, I've got it narrowed down to these 3 subs:

SVS PB12-NSD
HSU VTF-3 MK3
AV123 MFW-15

I've seen TONS of info here on the SVS and HSU, but only shreds and bits on the AV123, does anyone have links to any reviews/testing that directly compare it to the afforementioned two subs - i see that it scores quite a bit higher on the craigsub rankings post, which seems amazing for the price.

For the record, I'm probably 50/50 split between music and HT use, the current room is a very odd size and far from acoustically friendly, especially with the current furniture layout (34x11x8) - but i'll be moving this spring/summer (still haven't found the right house), so at that point will likely have my setup in a slightly smaller, more average-sized room.

I would go with the AV123 sub if you can wait (1-2 month backorder). It seems like the best value for the money and AV123 subs are very reputable. All of those are great choices.

I've not listened to any of the aforementioned subs including the one I'm going to recomend (MFW-15). I'm sure the SVS and HSU are awesome but I do think the av123 sub is a good step up from those other two. I've been on the MFW-15 pre-order list since Nov. 2006 and should be taking delivery next week. With the scores that craigsub and the panel gave it I'm buying without fear.

I bought my eD A2-300 based on user reviews and feedback but mainly off the Craigsub reviews and could not be happier. My eD sub blew away all of the subs that I tried out both at home from the local B&M stores as well as what I listened to in the stores in my price range (under $400).

I would love the AV123 sub. I would buy it in a heartbeat...

I am definately subscribing to this thread...these are the same subs I'm considering except I'm consider the 2.3 from HSU.

Also Epik Knight as well. I'm pretty certain it would outperform the mentioned SVS and HSU you mentioned.

Except conquest all the epik subs are on backorder. Knight is missing on their order page.

Good thread, I'm also in the market, and will likely choose between the PB12-NSD and the MFW-15.

I'm also a little cautious about buying the MFW-15 with only one review out there. I've seen other people saying "I recommend it" and what-not on this and av123's forums... but that's not a lot to go on... and they rarely explain *why* they recommend it.

And remember, people are recommending the MFW-15 largely on the basis of craigsub's scoring, but he's yet to score the current version of the PB12-NSD, which is rumoured to be nicely improved by both "rossandwendy" and Ikka.

I wonder, which of the two companies have the best quality control and warranty service?

wait for others to chime in with statements like "pb12 won't stand a chance against Mfw-15 blah blah blah". lotsa fanboys based on craigsubs ranking and never auditioned any of those subs:-)

MFW-15 should have the upperhand against the aforementioned choices.
Goes lower with more SPL and has the sound quality to go with it. Mark Seaton worked on it, absolutely great man that loves sound. Definite class A product.

Well at least us "fanboys" are basing our opinions on ranking..If you think our opinions are wrong, what do you base that on? Have you heard more than 1 sub on the list and arrived at different conclusion than the list suggests? You have to remember that people with more than 1 sub are a minority, and only they were allowed to give advice or have an opinion, there'd be like 1 post a week on this forum. Also I have yet to see any of those multiple sub owners state that they disagreed with the ranking in any way, only seen comfirmations so far.

Sorry pdadi, that was for you. Seriously though, I admittedly don't have any experience with the PB12-NSD or MFW-15, but I do use two PB10's and think they're great. My honest opinion i that the MFW-15 will outperform the PB12-NSD in output, but it shouldn't be a massacre, and they should both match up pretty well in terms of extension. Both are excellent subs and I think for $600, either one is an awesome value .

yes it will outperform but fanboys says it will squash all the other subs. check other threads.

My post is against fanboys making tall claims based on one mans ranking.

In $600 range both MFW-15 and Epik knight are great choices but pb12 and vtf3.3 will hold on their own

I have the PB12 NSD and it's greatest piece of sound equipment I've ever purchased. I haven't demoed the others, but i promise you will not be disappointed with the SVS.

You should upgrade to MFW-15 or Knight. There is a 17 point diff between PB12 and MFW-15 based on craigsub ranking you know.

Really, though, the MFW-15 and Knight are the absolute best performance you can get for $600, IMO. However, the PB12-NSD is still a great sub that should provide a very satisfying bass experience. If you can stand waiting a little while, the MFW-15 and Knight are your best options, but if you need that sub now, the PB12-NSD will be at your door within a week. Good luck.

I'm really leaning towards the MFW-15, but the reason i'm curious about the PB12-NSD, is that I thought the one tested in the craigsub scores is the original release. Supposedly SVS revamped the PB12-NSD, which performs substantially better. take a look at the second table in the link below - the differences between the original PB12-NSD and the new seem to be decent gains. It'd really be nice if there was a set of scores for the MFW on this table.

I debated over the same subs, plus Epik; though, I emailed Epik and they couldn't even give me a date of when more subs would be available. My speakers are from SVS, who have top-notch cust svc by the way, but it sounds like both the A5-350 and MFW-15 out perform it based on everyones reviews.

I just ordered the MFW-15, and I'm hoping I made the right choice. Guess I'll see once it gets here around the end of March.
