What do you want to see in the A1 2.5 Firmware?

Is your A1 lacking? Has the sound processing been upgraded to you satisfaction? Still wondering when the USB ports on the front will be enabled?

What do you want with the next firmware upgrade?

Stability.

I thought the last firmware update fixed my problems with Superman returns combo disc but apparently not. It would lockup on 2.3 right after the scene where Superman flys Lois around, when I got 2.4 it would play right through that with no problems. The other night I tried to watch it again and this time it lockup up again. Not sure what causes the problem, disc is brand new I am very careful with it but it just seems to have problems.

Divx/Xvid support?
USB ports enabled with memory/mass storage support?
Media Center extender support?

One could only dream...

That and faster boot time...better pause & resume..

What I really would like is for Toshiba to offer a refurb program of sorts for a nominal cost of course to gain all the benefits of the 3rd gen or 4 th gen players...since we were the first to buy their players...Having to buy a new player after spending as much as we did for the XA-1's when they were first offered isn't a good idea to me...maybe to them...but not to me...I know this is the price to be paid by being an early adopter...but...they shouldn't forget those of us who helped them in the beginning..

Freaking DTS HR or MA decoding to analog 5.1 and stability. The last firmware update is kinda crappy, the version before it I never had any issue with it but with the latest on some movies, i got skips and drop outs. Kinda pissed off at Tosh for fudging up a perfect player.

I would love to trade my A1 in for an A35.

Just started using it and boy is it nice.

The color seems to pop more. I am using the 5.1 analog outs and the bass seems to be better on the A35 than the A1. I also like the 1080p24 going into my scaler.

Much quicker loading. Now if I could figure out how to get the screensaver to work. I wish there was an option to just make it go. I had a movie on pause for 1 hour last night and the screen saver never activated.

My HD-A1 is still going strong. The only disk that has given me trouble is Bourne Ultimatum. I swapped it out for a new disk, but haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

With all the recent price drops, I was considering upgrading to a 3rd gen player, but then I began to read about the questionable quality of those players. I don't have a 1080p set, so there's not much advantage I can see to upgrading. If the newer players were more stable and had significantly improved load times, I might feel differently.

It seems that most requests for "2.5" updates are things that would be in 3.0 or 4.0, if such major updates still arrive (which I doubt). My 3.0+ update request would turn the A1 into a full-fledged network media player and Media Center Extender.

That would be my wish as well. Is that even possible with this unit?

The ability to play PAL DVDs (multi-region) like the way the A2 can (with a hack) would be great. Then it would definitely become the all-rounder in my house for HD DVDs, DVDs and CDs.

I'll bite.

- Storage support for USB ports
- DTS-HD MA decoding to 5.1 Analog Out

Don't see why not. A 2.4Ghz Pentium 4 with 1GB of RAM isn't exactly a crackerjack box. It far exceeds the requirements for being a Media Center Extender.

Well...what do we need to do ourselves to accomplish this...maybe if a few of us did it...maybe they would get the hint...Seems to me it would be a good solution for such a nice piece of hardware..You would think with as many intelligent folks here someone would to know how to make this work..
