My MAME cabinet is complete!

Well, after a month of building and tinkering, my MAME cabinet is complete. With the exception of some side decals and such, it's up and working great, providing hours of mindless fun for myself and the kids (and the wife when she get's the itch to kick my butt at Centipede).

I'll go into detail on how I built it and such in the next week or so, probably placing it on my website.

Nice!!!

Very nice. When you post construction details, I'd also be interested in where you purchased your parts. A cocktail cabinet is coming up soon on my to-do list.

Other than the controller (from X-Arcade), everything else I bought locally. The system is run on an old P4 computer I had laying around, I bought a 22" monitor off Craigslist, and all the wood/paint/screws, etc. was bought at HDepot. Oh, the t-molding is from T-molding.com

That's a 22" monitor? Geez, from this angle i would've guessed it was 17" max. More pics please! Very nice job, btw, it looks great. What software/front end are you running?

Thanks for the compliments. I really enjoyed building it and highly recommend it if you can do it.

Now that I think about it, it might be a 21" monitor. I originally planned to put a 17" we had laying around, but it was just too small. I think the bezel I built around it makes it look smaller than 21" or 22".

It's running Maximus Arcade. There are a couple bugs with it, but it's an easy to configure and use front-end and worth the $25 asking price. You can find out more at maximusarcade.com

I'll post a few more pics tomorrow, and eventually detail the building on my website.

I'm in the process of building one myself. I am at the sanding phase, which is boring Did you buy T-molding or just paint the edges red?

Nice work by the way.

Looks great! Working on my 5th mame machine right now. Got sidetracked as my Pinball passion kicked in and I went on a buying spree.

Great, thanks.

I thought I'd throw my completed cab in as well. This is actually the first place I have posted pictures, so let me know what you guys think.

I went for a 4-player setup with 2 trackballs, spinner, and 4-way joystick. Works very well and is a blast for parties.

You should definitely check out byoac.com or forum.arcadecontrols.com/ Everything you ever wanted to know about building one.

My best advice to start with is to buy one of the monitors like the Wells Gardner D9200 instead of trying to convert an original arcade monitor. The WG D9200 is a VGA so it works without any big headaches. After that, it still took me about a month of planning the entire layout of the buttons, etc. If anyone needs any help or advice, just give me a shout.

Thanks guys

do those things really accept quarters
I have mine setup to accept quarters. I have a 4 coin door color matched to players 1-4. I also have a set of buttons on top of the machine to do a coin insert as well. I didn't want to put the coin buttons on the panel as I didn't want to crowd the panel up.

Here is my second cabinet I made. I finished it up back in the fall of 2005, but it still works like a champ today.

please make me one nick

My first one was just a 2 player model, but it had a working coin door on the front. It was actually a more complicated design with a curved marque and angled front shaped something like this: \\_/ . At first I was just going to upgrade the hardware to run even more games, but then a guy at work made me an offer I couldn't refuse on it, so I sold the whole thing and built the 4 player one above. It is fully laminted and I this time around I had a lot better tools to use so it is a lot cleaner and sturdy. It is an awesome machine that gets a good amount of use.
