Hi

All

Little bit overview of my HTPC setup

I just finished set it up my HTPC yesterday

I got Acer Aspire T180 & Projector Panasonic PT-AE900u(1280X720P) HDMI
  • AMD 4000+
  • 3GB RAM
  • 350 Internal & 500 GB(WD) + 200 GB External HDD
  • NVIDIA PCIE 7300 LE DVI OUT CARD
  • Realtek HD Audio with Gigabyte SPDIF Bracket(12CR1-1SPOUT-12) bought from Pcconnection.Had to modify the pin bracket. removed original one and installed one from DVD drive audio cable. worked out pretty good.
    Windows Vista Home premium.
Yamaha HT5890 Receiver(Doesnt have HDMI, was so desperate to make HT so 2 yeras ago i bought when HDMI was pricy)
    NERO digital player Software.

connected HTPC DVI over HDMI to PT-AE900U

Issue number one.

With Resolution. When i project, It cuts from all the side little bit. so i dont see taskbar. and also when you open any application u dont see any close and minimize toolbar, also cant see a some icons left side .How can i fix this. I tried using nvidia control manager with different resolution. but no luck
Important details : current resolution i set it up from nvidia control manager is 1920x1080i and my Projector only 1280X720P . i tried that too.... but its same thing.

Issue number two.(Not really issue)

With SPDIF OUT. When i connect SPDIF Toslink out to yamaha V-AUX it gives me audio with any format but i cant change format bcas it says STRAIGHT on receiver display. So if My DVD movie in 5.1 or 7.1 it will give me that otherwise only 2 channel. Also In 5.1 or 7.1 i cant change the settings in reciever i.e. enhanced sound + DTS matrix etc...

When i connect SPDIF toslink out to Yamaha DTV or Cable/Satellite In , It gives me only 5.1 or 7.1 channel sound if i play AVI file with mp3 audio, it wont give me any sound.i want to use this IN bcas i can change settings i.e. DTS, dolby, 7 channel stereo or enhance sounds etc...

Also Can anybody suggest Any good Movie player like Nero that plays all DVD and AVI files and dont need no extra Codes

Does DIVX gives you 5,1 or 7,1 sound. also does it play DVD?

Any suggestion to improve my visual experience is welcome.

Thanks in advance.

First off: resolution. You say your PJ is 1280x720 but you're sending it 1920x1080i, why? Change the resolution of your video output to 1280x720 and it will match up. What you're describing is known as OVERSCAN. I don't understand why you say you couldn't change to 1280x720... you said you're connected DVI to HDMI -- that should work.

SPDIF. Install the latest RealTek audio drivers and get AC3Filter as well. The Nero you have may not support SPDIF if it's an OEM version. The STRAIGHT you mention sounds like a sound mode of your audio receiver which will not do any processing. There should be a button on the receiver to select other audio modes (soundfields) but the main one you want is Dolby Digital. I suspect STRAIGHT is like TRUE on my Onkyo -- it will only send Stereo R and L. You have to get SPDIF sending the audio out from your PC. Have it checked ON in your audio mixer as well as your applications. HOW are you playing DVDs? With what software? You need to set the audio to SPDIF there.

And, if your SPDIF issue is Vista related... I have no clue because I run XP.
