Help !!! TV is not displaying HDMI signal

Hey guys, heres some info on my setup.

ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe mobo (590 chipset)
Athlon 64 6000+
2GB Ram (DDR800)
XFX Nvidia 7900GT

Telly is Sony SXRD Projection KDS-55A2000

http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProdu...Sony+BRAVIA+TV

Basically i got at least 500gb of nice matroshka content on my pc for my telly and am unable to play any of it. My XFX card has 2XDVI outputs and i bought a very expensive monster DVI>HDMI cable to use with this telly.

When i plug the cable , nothing appears on the telly (simple as that , no error messages or anything). At first i thought it might be the cable thats at fault but i put a bog standard dvd/hdmi converter on one of the ends and used the cable to connect to PS3 and Telly, and it WORKS... (which automatically means that telly isnt a problem either)

Please do help me as i am now only able to get a component output throught the card at 1080i (but quality is poor) And would like to USE HDMI !!

Maybe the card has no HDCP or something? are there some settings i have to fiddle for to get the card to output HDMI.. .or should i just buy a new card with a propriety HDMI connector on the board (E.g. Nvidia 8500)

thanks

Just because you use a DVI-HDMI adapter doesn't mean the TV can recognize the signal. The computer can put out a completely different signal than the PS3.

Would suggest you review the specs on your TV, it should say in the manual what types of signal each input can take (i.e. digital versus analog, resolution, and frequency). Then set your computer display output (via the Nvidia control panel) to a matching resolution and frequency. If that still doesn't work, does your computer have a VGA input? That will almost certainly work with your computer. That's what I use with my Sony TV and my HTPC, because I couldn't get my HDMI inputs to properly display the computer output. The VGA input looks outstanding.

That card is not HDCP compliant so it won't hand shake with your HDCP compliant TV, you answered your own question.

it works with the vga, but whatever resolution i play set my PC to , and whatever i try, the resultant image fills less than half the TV screen. for some reason it is in the middle of the screen with large black bars on all sides???

I had a similar case with a DLP tv and HDMI connection that I was setting up for my parents. One of the first problems was just what you describe.

One possible solution (if applicable in this case--if you got Vista get ready for more problems):

-Set your Resolution to something compatible with your HDTV, your monitor, and HDMI. 720p, which is 1280x720.

-Shut down your PC. UNplug your monitor. Connect your HDMI cable and make sure your HDTV is on and set for the HDMI cable.

-Power up your PC, you should see the flash screen from your bios on your HDTV.

Most likely the reason that it doesn't work by just plugging in the HDMI cable is that it needs to go through a hand-shaking process that only occurs at the boot-up of the computer/GPU.

If you are lucky (which wasn't my case due to Vista and NVidia drivers) your HDTV should be displaying the desktop just fine. You can plug in your monitor, set it as the primary display and choose a better resolution for your HDTV. If you happen to power up your PC again without the HDMI cable plugged in, you might have to go through the process again.

hello mate. tried and tried again and nothing happened. I think it has to do with my gfx card not having HDCP (although i cant find anything that is 100% sure on this)

AND BEsides my GFX has no native HDMI slots so i gotta use the above mentioned DVD-HDMI cable.. In this case do the devices hand-shake as well ??????

I'm just guessing, but your HDTV might try to initiate the handshake process and your PC doesn't respond because it's just sending a constant DVI signal, which doesn't include HDCP.

Can't say whether it would be the lack of HDCP preventing your signal as I haven't had the opportunity to test that. I was using a native HDMI port from an 8600GTS Diamond Plus video card (with HDCP support).

As for a temporary fix, I was looking in the manual for your set, and it has some pretty odd resolutions listed for the VGA port. It also states "The PC input signal displays on-screen in a smaller size than the actual TV screen size and does not support interlaced signal." It does however support 1920x1080 at 60Hz, did you try that resolution? It's the native resolution so you shouldn't get any black bars.

I wish I could help, but HDMI is still very new to the HTPC community. When it comes to troubleshooting most of us are just taking shots in the dark...which would explain the low population.
