Trying to find a keyboard/mouse for my newly made HTPC.

I'm also waiting for a store (besides sundialmicro.com who increased the MSRP and charge more than double on shipping) to get the Silverstone GD02B in stock, it's a new case and I can't find it anywhere yet. I can find the tacky silver version, and the ridiculously expensive MT versions though... but the only HTPC case in the entire world that I want, the one I've been waiting >6 months for, and I can't find it!! Frustrating!

Anyway, getting back on subject here, I need a wireless keyboard and mouse for the HTPC. I'm not too concerned about battery life. I only have a couple of requirements:

1) Doesn't go to sleep constantly like the MX610 Logitech mouse (worst mouse I've ever used)
2) Dark color plastic (black prefered).
3) Works 100% perfect up to about 15-20 feet.

I'm thinking of settling on the LX 710 from Logitech. Any opinions?

I love my diNovo edge. Bluetooth, rechargeable, sleek, and comes with an integrated touchpad that is actually usable. The only downside is the cost. But there is nothing out there that would work better for me.

Don't get the MX5000, that I can say... it's a very problematic desktop bluetooth set. Loses connection often, and the mouse can have serious lag at times. I've had an issue with mine on two of my PCs. I'm thinking of dumping it and trying out the MX5500, but kinda worried I'll experience the same kind of issues with it.

I use Logitech Cordless Media Pro.

you'll also need a bluetooth stick and then it works fine with every pc.

I have this: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/ke...s/192&cl=us,en

But I'm considering this: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/ke.../3848&cl=us,en

The size is incredible... if only I could try it somewhere before buying (in Italy it's not so easy).

The Creative wireless keyb/mouse combo I have is not black (more grayish), but it works great at distance and both pieces are rechargeable via an included extender cable daisy'd off the usb transmitter.

I really like the Gyration mouse/remote plus keyboard. the are RF based so you can use them in other rooms without issue. For gaming you'd want a real mouse around too but for most everything else, the Gyration is pretty slick.

I'm still limping along with a WIRED keyboard and Logitech wireless mouse until the release of what I think will be the perfect HTPC input device:

I have the DiNovo Edge. I like it, not for its flashy looks or fancy light up parts, but because it operates like it had a cable plugged to the computer. No wireless hassle at all other than the slightest of pauses when you go to use the touchpad after leaving the board unused for a period of time.

However, if I didn't already have the DiNovo Edge, I would get that new little thumb operated Logitech board, assuming people reported it operated as well as the Edge. It would sit on the arm of the couch better than the edge does.

What wheel are you referring to?

IS this mini even released yet????

Newegg shows the case is available, search under 'gd02b'...great service and pricing all the time. Don't work for them, just a happy customer for many years. Going to order mine from them (the touch screen version) hopefully sooner rather than later.

I was going to suggest the edge as I have had it for over a year now it it works perfectly. I know it says only 30' range, but mine works perfectly with the server in the other end of the house. Has to be at least 100' plus floors/walls. Never misses a keystroke.

I'm curious now if the mini works as good as my edge does. Could you do a test with your mini to see how far it seems to work through walls etc? Every keyboard on the market short of my gyration says 30' and the edge is the first one that actually seems to do that for me. If the mini is as good, then there's yet one more toy to add to my collection

Just wish gyration made the mini keyboard with a mouse built in. The range on that sucker is insane and I love the compact size, though it has seen very little use since adding the edge. I could never quite get used to the gyration remote as the mouse which is why I purchased the edge.

Hi, this is my first time replying to any posts here, so I hope I don't make any noobish suggestions. I just finished re-purposing my older PC to be an HTPC and ordered a...bah, you need 3 posts to post URLs all pretty-like. Anyway, it's under the "Mice and Keyboards" heading on their site. It's the Logitech S 510 set. Newegg had it for around $40 shipped recently, just when I was looking for a solution so I thought I'd give it a try.

I like the 'feature buttons' on this keyboard. It makes life much easier to have the up and down volume controls handy like they are. I've used it to play Team Fortress 2 (first person shooter) on my 42" and it was plenty responsive for that. Of course, I'm not the best at the game, so your mileage may vary and I might just be so terrible that a keyboard/mouse lagging doesn't effect my score.

I really appreciate the look of the keyboard, it's something that my wife doesn't mind having out in the living room where everything's set up. I can't speak to the range though...I'm about 10-15 feet away at the most.

Anyway, I hope this helps. I've felt largely inadequate to post here because I am just learning about all this stuff, but since I had recent experience with setting my HTPC up I thought I'd try to chime in.

Good Lord, "feature buttons", what a nubish statement.... ...Just kidding. Welcome to the forums. Everybody started at one time or another. There's a lot of different things to learn, so don't feel shy to ask questions.

I went with the S 510. Thanks guys.

Logitech DiNovo Edge is possibly the best investment you'll make in a keyboard.

Its bluetooth so the range is very good and the tocuh pad is really precise at most reasonable range. I have tried it up to 30ft and it works fine

Too bad, I think I just saw the Edge on sale at buy.com for under $100 AR. At that price, it is definitely worth it. That being said, I still wanna get myself a mini...

Interested in the DiNovo Mini, however I see the lack of an "ALT" key a major draw back.
Does it really not have one (im going from pic's), seems crazy to have CTRL but not ALT (used more than CTRL).
How have people found using it without ALT? (ie simply switching applications would prove a headache)

The Edge is another option, shame its not a little more compact.
hmmm...no alt? I am still getting one when they come out!

Despite what i said in another post, I think the gyration is the best product out there. It is certainly better than the dinovo keyboard. For one thing, you are using a remote control instead of a keyboard. There are a few freeware programs out there that will make the number keypad a keyboard like a telephone keypad. This is ideal for doing quick searches or browsing.
I use my keyboard maybe once a week at best. Another plus is that the gyration remote is a universal one, and with a little know-how you can get it to run your tv/cable box/ and receiver... I don't think Dinovo or ANY OTHER wireless mouse can do that.

Of course, it is not for games, and if I had things to do over I would get the gyration remote with a different keyboard (bigger one). At the risk of breaking some posting rules, they have a couple of them at 40% off at compusa's that are going out of business. There are like four of them at the one near me.

On top of everything, they truly have excellent customer support. My unit broke (I have little kids)... They replaced the remote, no questions asked. I use their online support chat to ask really specific geeky questions which they answered very efficiently.

In fact the only flaw with the remote is that it is a bitch to program, and it can lose stored codes (like 5 times in six months). It's not an easy device to learn how to use (through I can't imagine a 90 year old lady being comftorble with any kind of universal remote). They have a newer version that has an LCD screen, but for some reason they only talk about how you can listen to music with the screen without having to look at your monitor on (ie from a different room).....

It works easily from 100ft away, and it does a decent job running my comcast and onkyo605. I just wish it was a little bit more user friendly, but definitely the best product on the market.

Really? No Alt? I use those all the time on my HTPC when doing maintenance and just messing around. I thought that new mini would be the perfect HTPC keyboard for me. I guess I could live without an ALT key.

Am I the only one who doesn't like the gyration products? I had nothing but trouble with my keyboard and mouse, and sold it eventually. Periodically, they just wouldn't work. Plus, I thought the RF performance on the keyboard was poor (missed keystrokes). Waving the mouse around in the air was more trouble than it was worth for me. That remote is kinda neat, but it's not a real universal remote IMO. Then again, I have no reason to use a mouse with normal HTPC usage.

I'm using an old wired keyboard and mouse now. Unless I'm setting up something new, I have no reason to ever use a keyboard/mouse with my HTPC.

I have a gyration keyboard and mouse...I love the way it works, it just isn't stylish enough for the living room.

The living room has a Nevo q50 remote and now a logitech MX air....I just got my new Logitech MX air for the living room, I like it.

I wish it was a little more solid like the MX revolution I have in the office with the Dinovo Edge. The Dinovo Edge is the nicest keyboard out there, particularly for the living room at $99. It's really a piece of art!

I have this one from Logitech. It is for PS3 but works with bluetooth perfectly on my HTPC.

How do you have the mini already??

I use a cheap MicroInnovations wireless mouse/keyboard kit. Cost me $20 and works great!
