You can haggle him to $899 shipped, or email the much nicer guys at Sound Distributors and you could get it for $800 shipped. He also said he'd do $1100 shipped on the 5.1 set with the 88s (and 85 center). Both are authorized sellers.

I emailed the distributor to help me decide between the 88s and the 75s. He said that in his opinion, he couldn't justify spending $300 more for the larger set as long as you used a subwoofer. I emailed Sound Distributors, they said that based on my room size (20' X 20'), he'd recommend the 88s over the 75s (and 85 center over 65). One thing worth noting is the 88s and 85 center have a 7 year warranty compared to the two year warranty their smaller counterparts have.

Lilmike went with the 88s over the 75s - more bass response, better mids, 88s are twice the weight as the 75s. So I'm in the same boat as you...

I went with the 88's mainly because I really wanted the 85 center and wanted
them to match.I like the thought of having 8 inch drivers in a center channel.I
still haven't heard the 75's but you can't go wrong either way in my opinion.

$300 is a considerable amount if you don't really need the extra power but like you mentioned it adds 5 extra years on the warranty. I'm assuming this only covers manufacturer defect and not if the speaker blows? The H-100 still comes with the standard 2 yr, correct?

For your room, I would definitely go with the more powerful speakers.. Mine is 19X13 so I don't think I really need the 88/ 85 combo. Just to clarify, the $800 includes all 5 speakers plus the sub? That doesn't sound like a bad deal.. Dammit man. I'm gonna have to sleep on it and decide in the morning.

Yes, the H-100 comes with the two year warranty. I really haven't read into what the warranty covers.

And yes, $800 for the entire 5.1 setup with the 75 fronts and 65 center, 63 surrounds and H-100 sub. A really good deal if you ask me. You just have to email them from the website and ask if they'll accept that offer. I did the other day telling him their competitor, Acoustic Sound Design, could get it to me for $800 shipped (a little white lie). He said OK.

Watched The Will Smith movie I Am Legend again today. This time with the subs on. WOW...is an understatement!! Some serious bass in this movie and the H-100's took it no problem.

I am all set to upgrade my fronts to the HT-85 Center and HT88 towers. However I will hold off until I see a matching surround set. I know the HT-63's will work just fine but something about having matching drivers all around. They could call the new surround speaker the HT-68.

Did you ever pull the trigger on a set? If you did, let us know when you get them and what your impressions are If I recall correctly, you had a Home theater in a box setup. If thats the case, your going to be grinning from ear to ear lol. The great thing is that the setup isnt really all that much more than a HTiB setup but the difference in SQ and build is pretty substantial.

No, not yet. I have the Klipsch Quintet II speakers and KSW-10 sub, which underwhelms me. But I really wanted to make sure it would be worth it for the upgrade...the Klipschs aren't awful, but I'm ready for something more substantial. I've been going back and forth about which set to get, and then there's the issue of having the 8" woofers on the center and fronts and only 6 1/2" woofers on the surrounds (not sure if that matters or not)...

Didnt really make much difference to me. The smaller towers that I got blend quite well with the larger towers. If you are concerned about the amount of bass from 6.5" drivers in the rears, then you really shouldnt be unless you plan to run 5 channel stereo. There is really not much bass that is delivered to the rear speakers. Only on DTS tracks do bass ever really get passed to the rear and even then I dont think you'll really notice much difference. This is something that you should keep in mind regardless of what kind of speakers you go with. Additionally, the main reason i went with towers for the rear was because it was only and additional 50 for the pair of 65's versus the bookshelfs and I would have easily spent 50 on two stands.

According to Sound Distributors, the HT-75s are $279 and the HT-63 surrounds are $179. Did you haggle to get such a low price on the 75s?

Also - do you happen to know if the 63s are wall mountable or not? If stands are needed, that may make me lean towards the 75s too. Do you like them as surrounds? Are they tall enough to make them sound like real surrounds?

sorry i should have clarified... i was looking toward the HT-64's as rear bookshelfs rather than the 63's which run 229. Just never really been a big fan of using a passive radiator. No real reason, just havnt lol.
Does anyone know what the passive radiator actually does in conjunction with the other 2 speakers on the 63s?

Yep, they are wall mountable.

Misread your e-mail.. Thought you were getting an addt'l 90 off the 817.. Sound distributors offering it for $800 shipped.. and $1050 for the 88/85 package.. Seems like they run a reputable company so I'll most likely go with them.. Thanks for the info.

And they're a certified reseller, so you get the warranty benefits. Not sure about Overstock, but I assume they are since they carry so many of their products.

You got $1050 on the 88/85 5.1 from Sound Distributors?

Where do you get/find coupon codes?
I just received my acoustech 63 surrounds which I am adding to a Klipsch reference system. I was very impressed with the packaging, speaker construction and on initial observation the sound itself. Of course the price is great and was the major reason I went with them.

It is a little tough to audition surrounds but initially I am happy with the purchase and find them to be a great match visually and in tone with my Klipsch.

Ordering mine today. Just need to find some stands for the rears. I also want to upgrade the wires including the subs. Is monoprice the best place to get them??? I've purchased HDMI from there before and they work just fine.

I don't see the package listed at Sound Distributors with the 88's only the 75's. Am I just missing it?

lilmike2069,

Could you please confirm if the size/weight specs for HT-88 and 85 match what is mentioned on BIC's website? I am more concerned about the widtch of these speakers.

Thanks.

What surrounds were in the $1050 (5.1) package?
