New towers, new center, tax rebates...all I need is some MS Cashback and I won't be able to stop from ordering.

Any opinions on my ealier post?

Since the towers are 8" woofers, you have to match them to 8" center. The fronts towers and center have to match.

I use my 4x HT-75 for my rear stage. I actually like my Bics and was gonna go 7.1. If I could have gotten Bic towers when I wanted them I would have. Now that I see these 89s I'm glad I didn't wait.
OKay, so I'll be picking up an Acoustech set and the HT-63's will be the surrounds. I don't have a way to wall mount them as the left surround is supposed to go right in front of a side window for the most opitimum location (can't quite drill a mount into the window ). I have designed and will construct my own speaker stands using stained pine to match the rest of my living room furniture; however, I need the actual dimensions of the speaker footprint. I know the dimensions as stated for the speaker itself; however, I need to know the measurement for the 'cutoff' portion so I can make a matching top to the column to fit the speaker nicely. I can just go straight square, but I feel that it would look much nicer, and cleaner, to cradle the speaker perfectly. Once my custom stand is built, and the speakers attached, I'll be sure to include a picture if anyone is interested.

For an FYI, my setup will consist of the following:
Harman Kardon AVR354
Acoustech PL-89 Fronts
Acoustech PL-28 Center
Acoustech HT-63 Surrounds
H-100 Sub
HTPC for all media (BD/HD-DVD/DVD)
DirecTV for HD satelite
XBox360
Wii

Will take a picture once everything is setup in about 2 weeks. Still waiting on my tax refund to pull the trigger on the speakers. *possibly some in wall speakers for rear surrounds, haven't decided yet if I want 7.1 in my current room. The couch is up against the wall so I think the in-walls would work the best as the two rear surrounds. I'll talk about it more with Eric when I call to order the speakers.

I'm glad I found this thread. I'm not even half way done reading but I just had to ask. I have a Harmon Kardon av347, how do you think this would sound with it

2 pl-89 towers
1 ht-85 center
2 ht-75 surrounds
1 H-100 sub
I already have 2 Mirage Nanosat Prestige speakers I can add to complete the 7.1
post #1597 of 4070
Can anyone get the measurements of all 5 sides of the HT-63 surrounds?
quick question.. is the H-100 still available, and if so, is the best place to get it on ebay or to call the guy mentioned several pages back?
im just curious since many people having said much for awhile, are these still a good deal to get? I don't need the sub, but since the package deal is all there is on the bay, i'll do something with it. Or is there a different set of speakers that would be considered the same for around same price?

thanks
For your info....Just received the small BIC DV5 that I'm using as a center. I find the detail and dispersion excellent, contrary to the flat construction of most centers. This may make it difficult to physically integrate. It's a keeper though and an excellent product. I wouldn't hesitate getting 2 more as mains in a small system; with a sub of course.

The wife is driving me to drink about how my new BIC setup looks in our living room and I have to agree it's a little large.

If anyone is desperately looking for some towers, i thought I'd let you know - I just put a brand new complete 5.1 setup on EBay local pickup only:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=250370798928

You know how it is, happy wife, happy life.

If you live in or around MA, it's going for an absolute steal for four towers, the big bic center and a nice H-100 woofer all spanking new. Check it out.

Now I am going to try and hunt down a small bookshelf system - if anyone has any recommendation, let me know. Right now I am thinking of checking out Polk or Aperion.

Would I be able to use 3 of these:

BIC America DV-62CLRS 6-Inch 2-Way Center Channel Speaker

For R/L and center on a 5.1 system, or should I go for 2 Venturi towers and that as a center?

That's a tough one for me to completely agree with. Otherwise, if I take it literally, 12" drivers for mains require 12" drivers on the CC ?
I don't feel even the manufacturer had that in mind. At a point where the center cannot keep up with the mains...the selector choice on your receiver comes into play.
I do agree that three speakers "exactly" the same spread across the sound stage may be better, but some just don't want that 3 foot tower in front of the TV and putting the same 8" as the towers in a smaller box can create a completely different speaker...from frequency response to efficiency. Besides, horizontal dispersion of the mid range can be horrible in an 8" driver if the tweeter cross isn't low enough.

Well, my set is due to be delivered tomorrow! This is my setup:

Harman Kardon AVR354
Acoustech PL-89 Fronts
Acoustech PL-28 Center
Acoustech HT-63 Surrounds
H-100 Sub
HTPC for all media (BD/HD-DVD/DVD)
DirecTV for HD satelite
XBox360
Wii

All I have left to do is to finish my speaker stands. I'm making them out of pine and staining to match the rest of the living room furniture, but if it doesn't look good with the speakers, I'll just paint them black. We'll see. I have everything setup and ready to go and working, wires are laid out just waiting on the speakers. I'll post up here again with my impressions once everything is said and done which should be sometime this weekend.

Just pulled the trigger on a VK12 subwoofer to replace my Klipsch KSW10.

Got it for about $300 shipped (had an 8% off coupon for eBay). Very excited to test it next week with Sunshine, Iron Man, Transformers, T2, and a few TiVo'd shows.

VampyreGTX, I am looking to get the same setup. Can you PM me the price you paid and where you purchased? Thanks,

Can anyone whom owns the HT-64 tell me if the tweeter/horn are perfectly square? I'd like to use these mounted horizontally and i need to rotate the tweeter 90 degrees.

Yes, the tweeters are square.

Background: (For those who want to know if I know what I'm talking about!)
I am a long time enthusiasts starting with my good old Klipsch Promedia v2-400's when I was in high school! Which to this day, 9yrs later, still work properly! I moved on to a klipsch synergy SF1 5.1 setup & a KSW-12 a couples years after my promedia purchase. The older synergies sounded a bit harsh to my ear so I eventually moved to Axiom speakers. I ran 4 Axiom M3v2 bookshelfs, matching center and an SVS PCi sub. Excellant sound, but during college I sold it to pay some bills. Since then I've been using my good old Promedia V2-400 in my living room! I did however get into car audio for awhile; Installed some nice CLass T amps, infinity kappa perfect components, dual SoundSplinter RL-p 12" DVC, and a custom integrated CarPC ala mp3car.com...

I've been done with school and working full time for some time now (years) and decided to indulge myself!

My recent experiance with Klipsch & Accoustech:

I was out with the girlfriend strolling around Best Buy and decided to purchase a Klipsch Icon 5.1 setup: VB-15, VS-14, VC-25 and I ordered a PA-120 to top it off! (Based on reviews of the PA-100 I had seen)

I must say, despite these Icons being the low end they do sound damn smooth and accurate. The papercone woofers hidden beneath are my only real complaint! They don't seem to have the stones to properly reproduce electric guitars and the like.

When I received my PA-120 I wasn't sure what to expect, the box looks like something you'd see at walmart! But I must say, as soon as I opened it up and saw the hand laquered top I was very impressed! It seems to have propery weight and build quality. Now this things doesn't hit like the RL-p's nor go as low as the SVS I owned. But in its frequency range it is very accurate and smooth sounding. Not really lacking in anything but extension. Overall, I was blown away at the quality obtained at such a bargain price!

Accoustech Platinum Series:
Being a bit of a bang for your buck kind of guy I decided to look into an entire Accoustech 5.1 setup!
I emailed sounddistributers (I bought the PA120 from them) and asked for a best price for the PL89 towers, PL28 center, and HT63 surrounds! Being a former customer offering to buy straight through paypal I was offered the setup for $799 shipped! I promptly payed and they are now in the mail!!

I am very excited and will post pics when they arrive!!

The user switching from KSW-10 should be very excited! I owned a KSW-12 for a year and the PA-120 I recently picked up blows it away in cosmetics, build quality, and sound quality.

Sounds like you got a hell of a deal on those speakers. Let us know how the new line sounds.
I've finally got my speakers in, hooked up and the settings setup, talk about a nice sounding system! I've got mine paired with a Harman Kardon 354. I don't notice the highs being too bright in the least bit; however, the HK may be helping with that as they are known for putting out warmer tones. Overall, I'm VERY pleased with these speakers. I had originally thought of getting the VK-12 sub instead of the H-100; however, the 100 is MORE than sufficient, even with a room that opens to the rest of the first floor. I wish I could run the speakers with the grills off, but with a 2 y/o boy on the loose, that would just be a disaster waiting to happen.

I just got my PA-6F system, Jesus Christ, I think I may need to reinforce my walls, the base is shaking everything, including the concrete base floor, WOW...

Top Notch Construction
Beautiful Fit and Finish
Unreal Sound
Dynamic (Whatever that means.)

Pictures to follow.

I'll try to get some by this weekend. I'm extremely busy (bad move getting the system as I'm wasting time with it rather than doing what I'm supposed to ) but oh well! I'll do what I can to get them up as soon as possible

They make great speakers. I was blown away by my six HT-75 towers.
see i was going to go with the new pl-89 package deal that is avail on the bay. But then I've just seen they have a package deal with the ht-75s and a center that matches them, while the rest is the same.

which would be a better deal?
I'd say call them and see what you can work out with Eric at Sound distributors directly. You'll probably be able to get a much better deal than buying straight up on ebay.

I got the PL-89's with matching PL-28 center and ht-63 surrounds and h100 sub. Great pairing on all and the sound is spectacular.

I've had my Acoustech speakers for about 9 months now and I've finally decided that I'm going to get rid of them. It's a very hard thing for me to do because they are beautiful looking speakers. I really love the way the speakers look with the grills off and the black gloss piano finish on the tops and bottoms really add a nice touch to these speakers. However, they are way too bright for my taste. I've even had friends of mine who are audiophiles tell me the same. When you get close to any one of these speakers all you basically hear are the horns and very little from the 6 1/2 woofers. The high frequency horns totally dominate everything.. Now, if that's the type of sound you like then by all means these speakers are for you. With movies these speakers sound really good. However, I wish I could say the same for music. They are way too bright sounding for me. I mostly listen to music/concert DVD's so I think I'm gonna go with a silk/titanium dome tweeter setup this time around. I guess the horns are an acquired taste? I'm thinking along the lines of either the Premier Acoustic or BIC Venturi speaker line? We'll see?

Your system not have an EQ? You can turn the treble down.
