BIC Acoustech Owners Thread - Page 59

thought i'd chime in on this thread. I recently bought and received my PL-89 Home Theater system off ebay. I have had it for a few days, and it's an awesome setup. The pl-89 towers and the pl-29 center sound very crisp, while not too harsh although like lilmike2069 i turned the treble up even more b/c that's my taste. They're not nearly as harsh as my friend's Klipsch reference series setup. The ht-63s blend with the towers and center perfectly. I was never quite the believer in having matching surrounds with the front 3 speakers as i had the Sony SS-B3000 speakers and let me tell you there's a huge tonal difference between them. I am totally satisfied with the speakers however the bic h-100 leaves me wanting more for a sub. Don't get me wrong the sub is good for the money without question, but i'm heavily into car audio plus my friend has the axiom ep500 and it kicks ass. The axiom is a 1200-dollar sub so of course it cannot compare. Anyone stepping up from a htib sub will love it and i like it, just don't love it. The bass from it isn't as consistent as other subs i've heard in the 35hz and below range but again for $250 it's a steal. I'm currently looking at purchasing an mfw-15 or an epik subwoofer. All in all, i'm very happy with the acoustech speakers, they sound awesome for the amount paid for them.

any idea when the pl-200 sub will be on sale? (edit, they have the sub on ebay now) also, the ebay auctions say 1 HT-26 center, but list all the specs for the PL -26.... the center that ships with the fronts is indeed the PL-26 right? not the "copper" HT-26?

any idea when the HT-63 "copper" rears will be replaced to matching PL-66 (or whatever they'll call it?), the "package" deal on BIC america mentions the PL-66, but thats the only info i can find on it, no pictures or any other info.

i'd like to have an entire matchin PL-Acoustec set, if in fact the PL series holds a candle to the HT series.

nobody?

on another note, anyone else take pictures of their PL's? anyone get a PL-200?

Well i have the pl-28 instead, and I think nothing in its price range can come close to touching it. I really didn't think my infinity center was that bad at all till i heard the pl-28. Wow, what a huge difference. The dialogue is sooooo clean and crisp. It plays all dialogue so effortlessly it seems like the actual person is right in front of you sometimes, plus all other sound effects through it are enhanced. When watching movies now at certain volumes i never get that hollow-boxy sound that i would get with my old infinity. It sounds on par with my friend's Klipsch Rc-7 (klipsch fans don't flame lol) which specswise is pretty similar.

I plan on purchasing this system and my thoughts were if If I thought the sub was lacking I'd swap it out with another subwoofer.

I'm a big car audio fan myself.

what ebay vendor did you get it from? did you submit a best offer price?
d3adpool,

Congrats on your new speakers. Enjoy them. I came very close to buying Accoustech set up myself but expanded my budget at the very last minute.

I completely understand about coming from the car audio side and finding disappointment in the home audio subwoofer. I feel the same. I know that there is a LARGE difference between the space in a car and a house. But yeah....I long for that feeling again.

I own a cheap Dayton 12 inch sub which I bought for $150. It got great reviews but I was quite disappointed when I got it. But for the price I paid....I guess it was decent.

2nd subwoofer I owned is the MFW 15. I say its good for Home Theater but I find it ok only for music, especially bass driven type of music like rap. Still one MFW 15 still can't give me the same feeling like my 2 JL Audio car subwoofers when it comes to music. Those 2 JL Audio would rattled office windows as I drive by them....the good old days....I think you might need 2 MFW 15...So far, one is good but not quite good enough for me. But those suckers are so HUGE, I don't have space for another one.

BTW, just be aware of MFW's amp failure problems if you decide to go that direction. AV123 are in the proccess of replacing the amp with a new one. If you can wait...I would wait until the new amps are install first before ordering them.

that looks awesome. I think I may want to step up on the speakers, the black circle in the middle always bothers me for some reason.

I went through Sound_Distributors on ebay, and submitted a best offer 140 bucks less than the listed amount.

Thanks for the response. These are amazing speakers. What did you end up getting?? I have 2 Solobaric L7s in my blazer as well so the h-100 sub left a dry taste in my mouth so to speak. The sub is sounding better as it's breaking in but it's still not enough lol. I just bought an epik castle used and it'll be here by the end of the week. It has awesome reviews on here so we'll see. Has your mfw-15 failed on you yet??? The failure rate has been increasing by the day.

are you referring to the towers or the sub?? the pl-89/pl-76 line is a newer model and doesn't have the black dustcaps.
now that a few people have the newer PL models... can you take some pictures of your setups without grills?

here are a few. Nevermind the wiring, and i only took pics of the front 3 speakers b/c the rears and sub are from the old line.
nice, i thought the 89's would be huge, and i had planned on getting the 76's.... but now i'm worried the 76's are going to be too small.

also, sonically, i think it helps to have the larger drivers with such a large horn, since the 76's uses smaller drivers but the same horn, it may be a little overbearing.

they are huge, weighing in at 51lbs! They're no Klipsch LaScalas but they're big. If i were you i'd get the 89s, that way no buyer's remorse

I was under the impression that the PL-76s still had the dustcaps and the PL-89s didnt.

Wow....are those woofers PINK?
champagne!

lol

spoke with eric with a few concerns.

#1, when will the PL-66 replace the HT-63 as surrounds that match?
#2, when will the PL-200 sub be included as matching instead of the H-100/PA-120?

If you buy either system at the list price I will ship it with the PL-200.
The surrounds will not be in for 2 more months. Though they are the same speaker and design as the ht63.

I think i'm gonna ride the ebay cashback wave to see how high it goes, it's currently at 14%, i'd like to have the PL-200 for sure, and i'd rather wait for the PL-66 vs the HT-63, but it's not a deal breaker at this point... we'll see what live does with the cashback.... if i can get the 89's and PL-200 for under $900 shipped, i'll pull the trigger even if the HT-63's are included.

no they aren't pink, although they do look like it in those pics. I'd say they're along the lines of a champagne cololr.

you heard wrong.... months ago it was that high (and higher), and eventually went away completely..... it's slowly crawling back up now, but theres no guarantee that it'll get that high again.... been at 14% for the past 3 days or so.

basically the pricing is the same, unless you write 2 reviews, making the first one cheaper.... they're both out of NV, so i wouldnt be surprised if the companies were related.

Anybody heard the new PL200 sub yet? Looks like it has slightly deeper bass than the H-100.
I have a PL200 on the way...Shipped today 4/2/2009. When I recieve it earily next week hopefully I will post a review comparing it to the H100. I ordered my set in late Feburary, and upgraded to the VK-12 but recieved the H100 instead. When I called they told me about the new PL200 coming out and upgraded me to that for no additional money and payed for shipping back on the H100. The company is very good.I have been very pleased with the service I have recieved, and the Speakers are AMAZING. Even the H100 sounds VERY good. I am a base junkie though, and want to try out the Big Brother :-)
