This forum is evil on the wallet. I came into this thread thinking of spending $200 on sony tower speakers (which probably would have gotten the job done) .... and i'll probably end up buying the HT-88's and 85, and being way more happy w it.

I'm also thinking about throwing 2 bass shakers under the couch now. This is going to be one awesome, kinda budget HT when its all together. Its probably gonna cost about $1500... which is way more than I originally intended, but I think this will last for a very long time (until the next upgrade bug hits). I've had budget HTIB experiences for way too long, time for a change.

Onkyo 606 + HT-88's + HT-85 + Scamp-10 or H100 + 4 side and rear surround Spherex Omnipolars (no room for back towers) + 2 aura bass shakers w dayton 70 Amp

Here is picture of the HT-65, HT-75, H100. The HT-63s are not shown. Using an Onkyo TX-SR705 receiver. HDTV is a Samsung PN58A550 on top of a Salamander Synergy Triple Stand and Triple Plasma Mount. The hole in the wall is about or just under 7ft. Room is a bit small... maybe 16ft from TV to back wall, 13ft left and right, and 11ft to the ceiling.

So far I am very happy with the setup but still have to move the floorstanding speakers and going to calibrate them today.

FYI the Scamp 10 won't be out until Labor Day. If you need a sub sooner, definitely go with the H-100

I thought I had everything all figured out until I started doing a little digging a found this thread. I'm looking for a decent 3.1 setup for $700 or less and thought I was all set w/ some Polk monitor 50's, a CS1 and an H100 for about $610.

Now I'm torn between those and some HT-75s, and HT-65 and an H100 for about $675.

Arg!

I doubt anyone had experience with both of those sets but if anyone does then I'd love to hear a comparison. This is about 70% HT, 20% gaming and 10% music in a room that's about 15x20x9 (w x l x h).

Labor day? I didnt see any announcement on that, but that is a total bummer. I was hoping it would be ready by july. I dont think I can hold off for that long.... otherwise i'd get the H100 now and then get the scamp and sell off one of them.

I decided to take the plunge on the system I mentioned above. I bought from the storefront at Amazon that sells them.

I've pretty much decided on getting the HT-88's with an HT-85, just waiting on my tax rebate and stimulus check. Should I get the H100 as well, or go with the A2-300 that is on sale?

I was wondering that same thing myself. Can't find too much info comparing the two. All I know is that the H-100 will be far more aesthetically pleasing than the super ugly ED subs. The ED sub is bigger too, so space may be a consideration (it is for me at least). Maybe it'd be best to stick with the same company all throughout. Plus, it's $75 cheaper and you already KNOW it's an amazing sub

I pulled the trigger on the A2-300. If the H-100 was able to go as low and pound as much as the A2, I would have gone with it, but the A2 seemed like a bit better of a value at this time.

While it is getting built, I can gather up the money for the Onkyo 606 and Acoustechs

Alright...I was convinced I wanted the Ht-88 system, until I realized I really can't afford them. So then I thought I could swing the HT-75 set...if I could get the price down to $700 shipped. Then I saw that the Polk Monitor 50s are on sale at Fry's for $99 each.

I hate to do this...but has anyone heard both of these speakers and compared them? I know the Acoustechs are horn loaded and the Polks aren't....but because we can't go to a store and listen to the Acoustechs, I was just curious.

I'm still thinking the Acoustechs though. WISH I could afford the 88s...

I had my eyes set on the HT-88s and I had the money for it but the system was just too big for my home theater setup. I ended up with the HT-75 system and have no regrets.

I paid $799 plus shipping for mine but my recommendation is to try and save up for at least the HT-75 setup.

The Polks and Acoustechs might perform around the same actually. They both will have great highs and clarity, but wont have very much bass and will need a sub. The Acoustechs will play louder at the same volume and can be gotten for only $80 more (maybe even less). I've seen a few personal reviews stating that the midrange on the 75's were lacking a bit though as well. Lacking enough to justify paying almost 2x as much for the 88s? Prob not.

I decided on the 88s and 85s based on being at the very edge of my budget, the size of the room, and the fact that I never owned a full range speaker and decided it was time to enjoy them.

As a follow up to my prior post.

I got the Ht75s, 65 and H100 set up w/ my SR606 yesterday and am very pleased with the set up. They look great (which is a huge help w/ the wife) and sound great as well. I'm no audiophile by any means but I replaced a 5.1 HTIB set up w/ this 3.1 set up and it sounds immensly better.

I'm looking forward to hearing it when they're all broken in

Not that anyone cares, but I really needed to hear horn loaded vs. dome speakers before I made my decision. I was able to get to BB and compare some Klipschs vs. some JBLs and Sonys. I definitely like the horn loaded ones better. Some people complain they're too intrusive, but personally I love how bright and crisp they sound. I think they'd be perfect for HT. So I'm glad the Acoustechs are horn loaded.

I was able to talk the guy at Sound Distributors down to $750 shipped for the HT-75 5.1 setup (they'll take $1050 for the larger HT-88 5.1 setup). Since they sell my current setup (the Klipsch Quintet II 5.1) and the Acoustechs, I asked him to compare the two. He said it's like comparing a Hyundai to a Corvette, and that there's a world of difference. Now all I need to do is pull the trigger....

I can't believe it, but I FINALLY pulled the trigger. Ordered the HT-75 fronts, HT-65 center, HT-63 surrounds, and the H-100 sub - from Sound Distributors. Can't WAIT! Will post a review when they get here!

Awesome, looking forward to more reviews. I'll be pulling the trigger in two weeks as well, but the anticipation is gonna ruin me.

I am no audiophile, but i popped in saving private ryan and...wow. If you have a receiver with audyssey i suggest setting your h-100 at about half when you run it, then crank it up as necessary. I for one found I liked a bit more bass than what auto setup provided. Now, I am at window rattling level and I like it. I like the speakers way more than my htib, but have little else to compare them with.

Anyone have these paired with an Onkyo 605? Or a similar receiver? What crossover settings do you have? And the sub?

I'll be using an Onkyo 606 (already ordered) w them, so I'll eventually post my settings.

Run Audyssey. Im guessing your center and rears will cross over at about 60-80, and the towers can probably do full range.

I paired them with a denon avr-788. My crossover settings are at 40hz for the fronts/sub I cant remember the rest. My sub is an h100, sounds great.

Has anyone noticed a difference with the grills on or off?

Would it be safe to place a PN50A550 Sammy plasma w/ stand (91 lbs) on top of the 65 center? I think it would look cool, but dunno if the stand will sit properly on top of the 65 or if the 65 can take the 91 lbs...

I highly advise not doing that.

I almost thought of doing that with the HT-85 center and a 52 inch sammy LCD. The center is almost 30lbs! Since I do not want to wall mount, and already have a stand, i'll need to figure out how to create a support to stand it above the giant center channel.

Sound Distributors also gave me a nice price on the 88's and 85, so I'll probably order them tomorrow. Very excited.

The system is ordered. HT-88's + HT-85 + Onkyo 606 + ED A2-300 + 4 spherex omnipolar sides and rears + 2 aura pro bass shakers + 1 100w dayton amp.

I think this system is going to blow me away.
