I have a Samsung 5271 LCD that is pretty thin. I dont think that will work for it. The HT-85 is also 28 lbs while the max on that is 30.... a little too close for comfort for me.

what settings do yall have ur bics on. I am not too impressed with the music playback right now. Im wondering crossovers on the fronts and small/large settings for the ht-75s? Right now im at 80Hz small and it seems a little muddy.

How long have you been running the speakers? I would say let them break in about 5-10 hours before judging sound quality.

Have you tried large yet, or a crossover at 40/60?
Ill let them break in a bit more. It could be an issue with my ht-85 center paired with the ht-75s. Id say ive ran them about 7 hours. I allowed audyssey to choose my settings. I suppose I will play around a bit if i still am not seeing improvement with more playback. Does anyone with experience with a decent speaker system before have any comments regarding the bics and music. Let me just say I am very happy overall with the system and movies playback is amazing. The bass is very solid!

My set is being delivered on Friday - I'm so excited I can hardly stand it!

Just out of curiosity (not sure how many owners are still following this thread), but has anyone thought these speakers sound too "harsh" or in-your-face? I've read a lot of reports of people complaining about Klipschs horn tweeter for that reason, and was just curious if these Acoustechs suffered the same fate. I'm sure it's more a matter of preference, but was intrigued...

I've read some other reviews of these speakers saying that the mids and highs seemed to be a bit compressed - whatever that means...??

And as far as break-in period - what do you guys think? 5 hours? 40?

I asked lilmike that same question about that and he said that it wasn't as bright as the klipsch. His reply is on the 2nd page (half way down) of this thread.

I'm also excited and waiting on my set to come next week, although I'll have to wait a bit longer for the a2-300 that I ordered.

I've never owned a real receiver, tower speakers, a good center channel, or a decent non boomy sub. I have never even listened to TrueHD or DTS-MA yet. To say that I am excited and will probably be blown away is an understatement.

Add me to the list of a potential future owner of BIC Acoustech's.

My HT has been completed and I've been enjoying it for 8 months now. Not even a year has gone by and I'm starting to fear the "upgrade-bug" has infected me!

Anyways, I'm perfectly happy with the Polk satellite speakers I have now, but often wonder what it would like to have some much more superior speakers instead. Currently I have my Polks matched with a Harman Kardon Receiver and enjoy the "warm" sound they produce. Would it be a completely different sound to go to a horn speaker which is typically referred to as a "bright" sound? I wonder if the HK receiver's "warmness" may offset this?

BTW, I use my HT for 98% dedicated movies.

Here's what I'm debating on...

Center: HT-65
Front L/R: HT-75 (Towers)
Rear L/R: HT-75 (Towers)
Sub: H100

Next friday's delivery of the BICs couldn't come soon enough. I have my new Onkyo 606 connected to 5 satellite speakers and no subwoofer. It's like I have 5 TV speakers making up my system right now.

If you're going to upgrade so soon, it's best to go a bit better than what you listed. You want to make sure you're happy for at least 2 years this time

I would go for the HT-88's, HT-85 Center, and HT-75 rears, as well as a sub that can hit a little bit harder and lower than the H100. Maybe an ED or Epik sub? The A2-300 is at a nice price right now. Expensive, yeah, but probably well worth it. The 75's and 65 with the a2-300 might be the best bang for the buck though.

I would like to keep a budget of 1k or under. Plus my room is only 18' x 11'. From what I've heard so far, the 88's are debatably even better than the previous generation.

BTW, while I was weighing this speaker decision, I did come across the SVS SBS-01 5.1 Speaker Set. I am now debating between either the SVS' or the Acoustech's, (See topic and thread here). Has anyone had the privilege to hear both? Aesthetics wise, the Acoustech's are far superior, but I keep reading fantastic reviews of the SVS'. I guess it will come down to me decided between dome vs. cone speakers. Any suggestions or opinions?

OH MAN do these things sound AMAZING!!! They absolutely KILL my Klipsch Quintet satellites. I'm still messing with the settings and sub placement, but wow...

I ran Audessy, and it all sounded good except for the sub. It had the level set at -16 db! I could barely hear it, so I manually adjusted it up to -3. Weird.

I have a few questions. FIRST - my fronts seem to be a bit wobbly. Does anyone know how to remedy this? There seems to be two drilled holes on the bottom of the 75s, but I'm not sure what they're for.

What do you guys have your sub crossover set at? In the owner's manual it says 100 mhz if you have the tower speakers, but I wasn't sure.

Also - as far as speaker placement for the rears....I have my couch (main listening area) and a wall on either side and directly behind. Should I mount them on the side walls or behind me? They're three way speakers so I'm sure it doesn't matter much...but I was curious as to what others have. I was thinking on the side, even though the picture that came with them has them mounted behind.

I can't say enough about the sound coming from these speakers. If you're on the fence, let me tell you - don't hesitate. They will NOT disappoint!

If you're a bass-head then you should probably find a different sub unless you're willing to go through the complications of a dual sub setup (wiring is no problem but sound waves can cancel and impact can be less if the sound from each isnt hitting you at the same time) i'm not really an expert with this but i think it would take a lot of trial and error. One sub getting a lot of attention is the AV123 MFW-15 which has a wait of about 4 months i think but is supposed to be well worth the money. It is one i am going to consider along side the H200 here 6 months from now.
Also, if the Quintet II's are the small bookshelf speakers, then it is no surprise to me that you find them underwhelming. I know that these BIC's are more expensive than your current setup, but you have to remember that when you step up to towers, especially towers with 8" drivers, they will be more expensive, and a $1000 bucks a pair is very very common, let alone a $1000 for an entire setup. I can understand the worry when it comes to not being able to hear them, i went through the same thing.
Also - thanks for the compliment

Forgot to add... i didnt use an SPL meter for calibration. I downloaded this signal sweep software:
http://www.download3000.com/download_23662.html
and ran it on my laptop. I then connected the laptop up to my receiver through the headphone jack and one of those Y-adapters. With the software, you can run frequency sweeps or you can have it output a specific frequency, so i just used that software and my ears to calibrate mine

Told ya! j/k... its all subjective, just glad your ears like the same things mine do

I ordered my speakers from Sound Distributors. Email them for a better price quote than what is listed on the website. I dont think we are allowed to say prices here, but with shipping on the HT-88's and HT-85, I paid less than the listed price on both without shipping even included. A very nice deal IMO, less than the other seller (Acoustic Sound Design) and overstock as well.

4 HT-75's, an HT-65, and either a H100 or ED A2-300 would make a nice system under $1k. The A2 is the better sub, but a little bit more expensive.

I've had mine for over a month now. I have the same questions as above. Anyone??? I also need to figure out which setting on the receiver is best. The way it's set now, all the highs and voice are defaulting to the center speaker and the fronts pretty much just background. I have yetto install the back speakers b/c I'm trying to decide the best look/ setup.. I also need to buy extra speaker wire.. In the meantime, can anyone answer the 2 questions above??? Thanks...
I have my tower and center crossovers at 80mhz. I agree that the towers could use a bigger base but that may be my crappy carpet more then the speaker

For the surrounds placement in a 5.1 I believe THXs recomendation is to put them directly to your sides or slight behind but still off to the sides (but their site isn't working for me right now so I can't say for sure).
So I emailed BIC because I couldn't find the answers. They recommended the following:

Set the receiver crossovers to: center - 80 khz, sub 80 khz.

The two holes drilled on the bottom of the fronts are for nothing, basically. They originally were made for some kind of speaker stand that doesn't exist. He said someone dropped the ball a long time ago, and for some reason it's still being done.

That's all I've got so far...

MUCH APPRECIATED... Sounds much better now!

I got my HT-88 and HT-85 package today!!! Still waiting on my sub, so I get to test the bass on the speakers standalone until it gets here.

At first I was a little worried, the boxes the speakers came in looked water damaged. I set everything up to check, and everything worked (thank god). One of the HT-88 towers isnt level, but it isnt a big deal.

I love the glossy black finish!!! It matches perfectly with my samsung 5271, stand, and PS3. The HT-85 center is HUGE. Theres no way I can keep it on the TV stand, it blocks half the picture, lol. I'll be throwing up 3 L pieces on the wall to build a makeshift shelf to hold it.

Sound wise, WOW. THESE THINGS POUND!!! lol. I'm only 15 min into breaking them in with some Cypress Hill, and already I can hear very crisp highs, vocals, and pretty decent bass extension. I can literally hear the vinyl record sound from the mixtables and the flaws in tracks like lilmike said. At about 5 hours in, i'll be throwing in some Fear Factory to really see how it handles mids and bass.

Standalone bass has been very good so far, but has sounded thin in a few places. I'll wait until I have about 10 hours into the speakers to make a full judgement on it though. There is a good extension up to about 10 ft, but at my listening position of about 15 ft, it isnt hitting as hard. Thats where the sub going in behind me comes in

System is an Onkyo 606, HT-88's, HT-85, 4 spherex omnipolar surrounds, 2 aura pro bass shakers w dayton 100w amp, and soon an a2-300. I'll have pics after the shelf is up and everything is cleaned up.
hey guys,
My first post, but figured i'd share my acoustech setup. I'm running the 75's, 63's, and 65 with h100. I picked them up about a year and a half ago, but haven't put a real reciever on them till two weeks ago (pio 92txh).

I wish I could set up the rears so they are more equidistant from the seating positions, you only hear one or the other depending on where you sit, but thats a problem with my setup, not the speakers.

Anyways, i'm very happy with them, they are GREAT for movie/tv watching, no complaints at all. I used pio's mcacc at the seating positions, then jacked up the sub volume, no other changes to the setup yet, but it definitely sounds better than in Pure Direct, where I have to say music sounds a tad bit muddy, but I haven't had any other "real" speakers to do a side by side comparison with. I was surprised how much treble i was left with after the mcacc setup, but i've never used one of those before. Not that i'm complaining, the highs are where I think these speakers shine, crisp and clean, great for percussion.

For those of you that have the 75's and 88's, can you set those up in A/B to switch back and forth, and listen to vocals specifically and compare them? from my car audio days, I always worried about larger mid's taking away from the accuracy/delicacy of voice, just wondering how these speakers handle it between the two sizes.

anyways, here are pics of my setup, sharp 52d64u, pio 92txh, toshiba a2, ps2, xbox. I left a couple grills off, but usually keep them on.

Nice setup, bigshoey. I've always been a fan of darker woods for floors and furniture. They really go great with the BICS.
Great setup...where did you get your couch-seat and how much did it run you?

Its time to pick up an xbox 360 tho!

BigShoey: Try setting your surrounds up like this to see if it helps with your listening position problem:

Switch your left and right speakers meaning put your left on the right side and vise versa. Then arrange them so the oval passive radiator faces toward your back wall, the mid is faced inward toward the couch, and then the tweet will be at an angle that might be more appealing to your ears. Try that and see if it helps.
thanks guys,
bsteady, I got them at Lifestyle Furniture in Cleveland, the reclining sofa was 650 and the reclining "loveseat" theatre type chair was 700. Its fake leather and microfiber, and a so-so build quality, but very comfortable. Don't know the brand of the furniture, sorry.

lilmike, I planned on doing that, but I often pile things up on those end tables. It would make the horns much more directional, and I should probably move them out to the outside edge of the end table too. At the time I was just trying to minimize the presence of the speakers.

Then again, its movie night tonight, so why not, i shouldn't be making lame excuses anyways, we're all in it for the entertainment aren't we?

Miki
Here are some pics of my almost completed setup. These BICs are getting better and better by the day.

These speakers have been great for music, but they really shine during movies. I threw in Hitman and turned on the bass shakers during one of the shootouts, and it was incredible. There was plenty of bass from the speakers, and plenty of thump from the shakers, that I didnt even feel like I needed a sub. I can only imagine how amazing this setup will be when the sub arrives.

I think I'll be joining you guys soon with a set of HT-88's fronts, HT-85 center, H100 sub and HT-63's for surrounds. I just ordered a center channel speaker shelf to go on top of my 56" Samsung DLP. My only problem is that the HT-63's are larger than my current surrounds by a good margin. I'm sure my wife won't be happy. I could continue to use my small plastic Sony surrounds until a better mounting option poses itself. I'd love to do HT-75's as surrounds but it just won't work in my room.
Hey guys, after reading this thread im convinced. I plan to get 2 pairs HT-75 for front and rear, HT-65 center and the H-100. I just want to know about how much i should offer for this setup.
Last week i recieved my ht-85 center and ht-64 bookshelfs. So add me as a happy BIC Acoustech owner as well!!
I placed my order today for:

HT88 fronts
HT85 center
HT63 surrounds
H100 sub

They are supposed to ship tomorrow. I doubt I'll have them by the weekend, probably next week but I'll post back with my impressions.
