How should the PL-66 surrounds be placed? Im not sure which is left and which is the right. Should the angled piece be in front, closest to the television or should the flat side that be parallel to the television with the angled piece facing the back of the room and listener?

I don't know where they are relative to the seats but, I would point the tweeter towards the listeners.

Did you look at the pictures in the book that was in the box?

Doesn't matter which is left or right. Like Louis said, you want to try and have the horn tweeter pointed at the listening position. I have mine about 2 feet behind the listening position and on the side walls. The horns are pointed directly at the sweet spot. These are killer little speakers that put out some serious sound!

Thanks for the replies guys.

For those of you that have your Bics powered by a receiver with Audyssey, what crossover did it set your speakers at? If you don't find that optimal, what settings have you switched to?

The YPAO calibration on my Yammie 663 has set the crossover anywhere between 120 and 200hz the four or five times I did it. The I adjust the crossover down to 80hz.

I have an Onkyo as well and it set my 89s to 40hz, the PL-28 to 90hz, and the PL-66s to 70hz. I moved the PL-66s to 80hz but was going to try a week with everything else left as is to see what I thought.

I know you're experimenting but, if you have a subwoofer there is no need to cross towers that low.

x2 and you are probably hurting your sound quality as the receiver tries to push the towers that low effectively

Lowest I would go with a subwoofer is 60hz for the 89's and bring the 28 down to 80hz, heck given the center's frequency response you could get away with it as low as 60hz as well
post #2891 of 4117
In the past I've used 80hz across the board. I just wondered if things might be different (in a good way) if I left audyssey at its default.

I stumbled across this forum awhile ago while searching for bookshelf speakers for my upper level. I decided to try the dv62si with the v1020 sub. They sound great, at all volumes! Thanks for leading me down the right path.
Now I got a new dilema. The wife is sick of my old HT setup, the big towers "take up too much room", not to mention my toddlers bounce off them often. They are 15 yr old monster DCMs, I love their sound, but whatever. So I guess acoustechs (my dream setup) are out because of the tower situation. Here are my current thoughts.
1. 5 fh6lcr all the way around. If I do this the rears would have to be a horizontal mount because of the room setup. I'm not sure if that would mess with the sound stage though.
2. 3fh6clr across the front and 2fh6w in the walls for the rears. I can't find much info on them though and am not sure if they would sound well with the fronts.
3. 3 dv62clrs for the front and 2 dv62si for rears. I like the sound of my dv62si upstairs.
My current speakers have 12s in the fronts and bullet horns all around. They are big but sound great. I don't know if the horns sound similar to BIC though. My reciever is a Kenwood 2090 I bought about 10yrs ago for about $900 to replace a Harmon Kardon. My room is about 22ft wide with a 46in Samsung on it, 15ft deep, and a 7ft drop ceiling.
What are your thoughts? Any and all replies welcome. I've learned a lot from reading your forum. Thanks.
BTW I forgot that I will be adding a sub, and of coarse i'm not sure which to get, F12, HT100, or the monster PL 200!

This is my 1st post. Thanks to everyone here for all the good information (3 yrs worth on this thread) on the Bic's. I'm just about ready to "pull the trigger" on the PL89 (w/PL200 sub) system. Before submitting the "Offer Price" option, I was wondering if anyone had any recent offers that were accepted.

-If so, what quote did either site return with?
Sound Distributors lists it for- $1225
AcousticDesign lists it for- $1258

-Is sending an email to Eric (Sound Dist) and plugging the AVS Forum a better option?

-Are there any coupon codes

Thanks in advance

Hello "new357" I sent you a PM but I also forgot to include that I have two Pl-200's as subs... If I were you I would get the PL-200 as it has been a very good performer for me.

Hello Terry, I have delt with both Eric & Mike as they both have treated me great as well as others. Eighter way you will be just fine. If you hit the "make your best offer" button they will just send you there best price which is usally a good offer. There is a "code" they send you if you want to order. I cant relay that info on here as it is prohibited but if you hit the button you will find out.

Damn, that looks awesome! I'm trying to narrow down my options on what kind of cabinet I want/need to make with my "future" system. I very much like the lower cabinet unit...and all else. Looks great! Btw, it doesn't look like the PL-28 would fit here...is this correct? And did the 26 "just happen" to fit?

Nope, the PL-26 didn't "just happen" to fit. Hours and hours of shopping online, and digging through this forum. I bought the speakers, receiver, and TV first, then started shopping for a cabinet. The PL-26 is big, the PL-28 is HUGE. I can't think of any cabinet that would hold it internally. The PL-28 is 10" high by 25.5" long as compared to the 26 that is 8" high by 22" long. My cabinet is the Salamander Synergy 339. The PL-28 would not fit in the open shelf, where I have the PL-26. It's only about 9" high, 8" at the spreader bar at the front edge. I think, had I bought a system with the PL-28, I would have bought a lower cabinet, and just set the speaker on top, since the TV is wall-mounted anyway. To put things in perspective, that is a 70" Sharp LED on the wall. It almost makes the speakers look small in the pictures.

I thought the tv looked big. 70". NICE!

I am probably not the best one to ask. I have a bit of high frequency hearing loss. But, that being said, I can tell that the sound is bright, as many have said. After running Audyssey on the Denon, it sounds good to my ear. Huge difference before and after running Audyssey. We listen to about one third movies, music, and gaming. My kids and wife are not complaining about the sharpness, so I guess it's a winner. For Home Theater, it is expansive and enveloping.
BTW, these are my second set of Bics. Years ago, I had an old pair of 12" Venturis' driven by an old Kenwood 200w per channel receiver from the 70's! I think those old speakers are still in my attic somewhere...

Today was the first time in my life that I listened to a SACD CD. I just purchased Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. Holy crap that is awesome. System is Oppo-93, Denon 3311CI, Pl89 X 2, PL-28 Center,H-100 sub and PL-66 surround in the back.... Again WOW!

I'm the proud owner of a Stewart Studiotek 130 G3 128" screen and a JCV RS-40 projector, both great, GREAT AV products and I sometime forget how awesome the sound is in my HT with the component I spent the least on... Kudos BIC Acoustech....

Ordered middle of May, but I just got everything hooked up and working. I'm really enjoying it so far, I just need to get the kids off the Xbox so I can play!

@zbroke: WOW, awesome setup. I remember hearing Pink Floyd in quad, many years ago. I bet it's unbelievable on SACD.
