I had tried quite a few center channels in fact, I had the Polk c10, Def Tech Clr2002, Bic DV62clrs, Klipsch Synergy C-20 but then ended up with the Bic Pl-28. The pl-28 vs the C10 is a vast differnace I would say. It has much more clarity not to mentioned easy to drive! Out of all the centers that I had to me... the Bic Pl-28 is by far my favorite!

Its not that the others were that bad or anything but to me the Pl series fit my taste. As far as the tsi & c10, they are a very popular speaker as quite a few people have them and like them thou. Its just comes down to... "its all a matter of prefferance".

It's good to hear that the pl-28 sounds better than the cs10 so I will definitely be replacing those sometime in the near future. Might as well get the pl-89's too to match my fronts.

You better just buy 6 PL-89 for your set up and be done! I know you want too.

Anybody have any feedback on BIC Formula speakers. I am thinking about buying a 5.1 setup for my media room?

I tried to order but they were OOs. I got the vk series and could be happier. I would suspect they are the same as the gge ones in this forum minus the finish.

Got mine a day after notyou21 got his. Eric sold us the PL-89's, 28, and 200 for $800 cash.

Compared to my Tsi500's and CS10, the PL-89's and 28 sounds a lot clearer. I was originally curious as to how dome tweeters sound compared to horns and the PL series caught my eye. Notyou21 told me to demo some Klipsch speakers at Bestbuy to get an idea on how they sound. I was impressed at how clear the sound is compared to domes.

I have these set up with an Onkyo 708 and 4 Polk Monitor 50's for surround. I might replace the monitor 50's with PL-76's in the future for pure horn goodness. Movies, music, and games sounds so much better than before and it's only gonna get better after I break them in some more

funny thing is that the pl series are really dome tweeters, aluminum domes in a horn to be exact . I would like to find out how they make them sound so amazing ,congrats on the speakers that is one hell of a deal .

I finally hooked up my PL-89 5.1 system. Is it me or do these speakers not work with banana plugs? They are very loose. I'm using the Monoprice plugs.

there def not the usual kind of speaker terminals . you just gotta push them in really good until they kind of click in after that they should be snug . I have the same monoprice plugs well mine are the closed screw type . hope this helps

Has anyone compared the 76/26 set vs the 89/28 set up? Not sure which to get...

Originally I was going to go with the Klipsch RC 52's and RF 52 to start a build on a mid-end system, however I decided to give the BIC Formula line a try.

After I had an unexpected bill come up I was short of my savings for the Klipsch speakers and I ended up getting a pair of the Formula FH-6T and the FH6-LCR. I can tell you that I am very happy with those speakers.

A couple weeks later I purchased a pair of FH-65B for the rear and the F12 sub as my old Velodyne died. The rears complimented the other speakers and the setup timbers very well. So far I am most impressed with the center channel (FH6-LCR) definitely the best bang for your buck!

I had the chance to audition a pair of PL-89's from a guy selling them off CL and I can't say I would be willing to upgrade from my FH-6T. My room is not big enough for the PL-89's imo. If I were to move into a house with a bigger living room I might consider the PL-89's. For now though, The FH-6T's are doing the job quite nicely.

The only difference I noticed from the FH-6T to the PL-89 was a bit more power and the mid-end bass. Overall, very nominal and not worth the upgrade.

What I will say though? I wish I would have saved my cash and bought the PL-200 instead of the F12... The F12 is a great sub but it lacks that tightness that I am looking for. This is the exact reason why I ended up purchasing the Velodyne sub many years ago. Wish I could recall the model - but that thing was great! The gentleman selling the PL-89's also had the PL-200, unfortunately it was not for sale...

FYI - I am powering my setup with a Denon AVR 1912 and it handles the setup well. I upgraded from the Denon AVR 591 because I wanted a true 7.1 receiver.

Good luck on your purchase and decision!

They are pretty identical speakers except for the size of the drivers. For the extra $200 or whatever, I would get the 89/28 system regardless of the size of the room. Unless you can't fit them of course. For $1006 shipped AND with a PL-200 sub, it's really just a fabulous deal.

I have the 89/28 set up. If you have the funds for it I would go for it. My friend Slasher X has the same with 2 pl-200 subs in his bed room. No such thing as over kill!

They are from Monoprice. If you are considering using them be careful when attaching the mount to the back of the speaker. Make sure the screws do not penetrate into the cabinet. You could damage the crossover. It is attached to the inside rear of the speaker.

If I were to get a stand for the PL-66s, does monoprice have a stand that would work for these?

I don't think Monoprice sells speaker stands.

They sell two different styles.

I stand corrected. Although I don't think these would work with the PL-66's unless you attached them to the stand somehow and then it looks like it would be top heavy.

The first set look to be a great match for the vk series. Thanks
post #2967 of 4117
Finally removed my Onkyo 9300 HTIB and set up the PL-89 5.1 system. The difference is night and day. As you can see from the pics I have a large open/general use HT. The Onkyo system isn't a bad set up it just couldn't handle the large space.

I'll soon be adding a second PL-200 and upgrading from the HTIB receiver to either the Onkyo 709 or Denon equivalent.

Any suggestions on a new 7.2 receiver?

Fellas, check the weight rating on those. The first set holds 5lbs max. The second, 9lbs. Just be sure what you're going to do with them .

onkyo 709 would be a great choice . For a denon equivalent you would have to get a 3312
