imo No. Other than bragging rights or maybe if you listen at insane volume levels. Slightly better bass out of a center channel is useless to me.

Guys, anyone have experience with the acoustech pl-66's? I havent read too much about them, but te specs look great. I used to have klipsch ss-5's but all my gear was stolen. Currently have polk tsi-100's and they are not what i was used too with the klipsch. Figured i would ask if you guys thought they were really good or just ok. Cant find much on the internet for a review. Help a brother out give me some input PLEASE! How is the surround-ness if you will? Are they room filling as well as great for sound fx? Just want an honest review since i dont have an opportunity to hear them? Thanks guys

A few weeks ago I received the Bic "package" I purchased from an authorized seller on eBay and it includes the PL-66's. I love this system and those surrounds. I have an Aperion 7.1 set-up and was tired of Aperion saying it's not their speakers it's the AVR SO after I sold my 4 month old Denon and got an Onkyo the 'issue' with the fronts still existed. For the 5.1 Bic set-up I purchase I couldn't get 2 new Aperions for the same money! and since my neighbor had a set up from Bic (an earlier series) I loved the sound. SO I now have a 7.2 set-up. The sub is much better then my Aperion and after running XT32 calibrations on the new set up the PL-66's are 'better' then the Aperion bi/di-pole surrounds I have. Since my Aperion's are already wall mounted i'm using the PL-66's as my side surrounds and they sound fantastic.

Hey guys, new to AVS and a new BIC owner. I just bought a 3.1 setup and am a long ways away before I have the space and permission to run 5.1 or 7.1. My new system, which I am extremely happy with so far, consists of:
PL-76 pair
PL-26
PL-200
Denon 3310-CI (borrowing)

My question is regarding the receiver. I am currently borrowing the Denon from my buddy. It is used but pristine. I may buy the receiver from him, but I'm not sure what price he's going to give me.
Should I buy the 3310 from him and what price do you think is reasonable? If I don't buy the Denon, Is there a decent yamaha, onkyo, denon or other receiver that I could/should get in the $300-500 range? If so, which one? Thanks so much for your input!

Ironic...there were times, when my kids were growing up, that I would have gladly sold the kids for a killer speaker system.

I have owned my BIC Acoustech speakers for about 1.5 years now...and they are still new in the box.

It has taken this long to

1. Sell my previous home.

2. Buy another home.

3. Build a dedicated home theater.

4. ........still working on the rest.

I'm in the painting phase now. Just a few more weeks and I should be able to hook up all of my 9.1 speakers. (I don't have the projector yet)

Front: PL-89 x 3
Surrounds and effects: FH8-W x 6
Subwoofer: PL-200 x 1 (for now)
Receiver: Yamaha RX-A3010BL

I designed the space for 2 subwoofers, but I thought I'd try one to begin with. I've never used two subwoofers before. The space in about 23 x 14 x 8.

I used a PL-200 in my last dedicated home theater, but it went with the sale of my home. I just received my new PL-200 yesterday.

Last week I pulled one of my PL-89s out of the box to aid in the design of the screen wall. That is one good looking speaker.

It's getting so close, I can start to taste it.

Also check out the FH6-LCR, 3 of those across the front should sound good and they are sealed to hanging on wall won't be an issue at all, the bookshelf speakers are rear ported so not sure how that would affect the sound if they are close to a wall.

I wish Acoustech would have a "new" book shelf speaker and I wish they would have designed the centers to be LCR speakers that could be used horizontal or vertical. But for their price I guess you can't expect everything.

Guys here is my gear list if anyone has any recommendatios for me.
Pioneer vsx-1021 7.1 ss receiver
Polk audio tsi-100 front left and right
Polk audio cs-10 center
Polk audio monitor 30ii series x4 for surrounds
Polk audio 125 sub (cherry)
Epson 8350 projector--- love it
Xbox 360---for gaming
PS3---for blu rays watching movies
Xfinity/motorola hd cable box

My dilemma is i am now loving my fronts they sound great, but my surrounds i am using are not very clear, i have even tried swapping the tsi 100's with the side surrounds to no avail. I am looking for a fuller sound from the side and rear of my system and dont wanna spend a ton of dough doing so. I used to have a klipsch system and was very happy with their surrounds. All my gear was stolen and rebuilt this system going all polk. $300 is my drop dead price range and i am looking at the acoustech for the possiblity of once again gaining that fullness. Anyone with experience in a franken system of this nature? Like i said really loving everything now except for surrounds.

Thanks guys,

After many weeks of reading and researching....I am leaning towards a purchase of the PL-76 or PL-89 5.1 home theater bundle.
I am wondering how these would pair up with a Yamaha Aventage RX A720 AVR considering a lot of folks say the Yamaha tends toward bright and horn tweeters might also tend toward bright.
My other option is the Pioneer 1222K, but I really like Yamaha and have owned their stuff in the past.

It makes no difference. Personally I would easily get the 720.

That is good to know! Now it's just a matter of timing and finding the best price! I just missed a deal on New egg for a $220 gift card with the Yamaha...maybe it will come back around.

What is the best route to go in purchasing the Acoustech's?

Email acousticsounddesign and ask for a best price on the speakers you want. They will send you a great price.
I was talking with them yesterday. I didn't ask for their best price since I haven't made my final decision, but they will take at least 15% off their advertised price right now if you use the code TV15 at checkout. Still need to email them, but thought I'd pass this along for your consideration.

I have a customer that I am recommending a HT setup and then doing the install and calibration and such. He was origonally thinking about a HTiB, I told him I will install whatever he wants but the only HTiB I feel is worth while is the Onkyo HT-S9400THX. He made the comment to me that he want's to do this right, and he is a Vietnam war Vet with some upper end hearing loss.

If he can stretch his budget I recommended 7 - FH6-LCR's and 2 - F-12's paired with an Onkyo 616 AVR. I have the PL-89 7.0 setup and love it, but he wants all wall mountable speakers. I figured the horn loaded dome tweeter would be perfect for him to bring out the highs and make voices crystal clear. If he would want to spend the money I'd probably recommend dual Oultaw Audio LFM-1 Plus subs which is what I have and he said he liked the "end table" factor that those subs have.

But what do you guys think about 7 - FH6-LCR's, 2 - F-12's, powered by an Onkyo 616??? Will that be a good sounding system for someone like him? (The room its going in is "3 different areas" its kind of an L shaped the long side will be "divided" the front will be the HT area, the rear will be a kitchenette/bar area, but the only thing seperating the 2 areas would be a counter and base cabinets and the other side of the area will be a game/rec. room.) That is why I am recommending those speakers along with 2 subs so it fills the entire area nicely.

Have you looked at using 4 PL-66's (for the front and surrounds)? They are wall mountable and the instructions that come with them even show an arrangement as such using four of them as the fronts and surrounds (I'm using 4 of them as my side and rear surrounds). They are wall mountable too. Just some food for thought.

I would not suggest using the PL-66's as L/R speakers because they are bi-poles and cannot be easily positioned for optimal sound. They would be better of getting the non-acoustech L/R's.
@ Wryker. I haven't thought of that... I also have 4 - PL-66's all wall mounted as my side and rear surrounds. I love them, but I don't think that they would make good front speakers given their orientation and layout. The tweeter would never be pointed at the listener if used as front speakers, which I would think would be detrimental for a center speaker.

I was also thinking that the FH6-LCR would be better than them too because of having 2 - 6.5" woofers instead of only 1 and they are made to wall mount vertical and horizontal.

Not saying your idea is bad just never thought of it and was just sharing my thoughts. I'm open for suggestions.

I could easily be incorrect in that the diagram shows 4 of them just for the surrounds (I'm at work). I was going by memory when I opened mine up and read the instructions page that came with it and it had a speaker layout showing multiple PL-66's.

Hi everyone,
Have browsed this thread extensively and still unclear on one thing.

What exactly makes the pl-76 better than the FH-6T?

I talked to one of the two big Internet resellers and he said it was mainly the lacquer finish and if I did t care about that to just go with the 6Ts. Is there anything he missed?

For what its worth I can tell you that I listened to an fh6 lcr and a pl26 side by side and they sounded the same. No difference other than the lacquer finish as far as I could tell. The whole line is probably the same way.

According to www.bicamerica.com

Differences

FH-6T
Down to 36 Hz
Power: 10-175 Watts
34 lbs
Warranty: 5 years
1 inch shorter
www.acousticsounddesign.com listed price $338 pair

PL-76
Down to 30 Hz
Power: 10-200 Watts
35 lbs
Warranty: 8 years
1 inch taller
www.acousticsounddesign.com listed price $429 pair

I've never listened to these, so if I had to decide based on the differences...here's what I'd think about.
PL-76 pair is $91 more, but I'm not sure what a "best price" will be.
If using a subwoofer, the Hz difference is not very important.
3 years of warranty difference.

For $91 less, I'd go with the FH-6T

I own the PL-89s, but do not have them installed yet.

So I've been looking around for some quality affordable high efficiency towers, and the PL-89 seems to fit the bill. Does anyone have any warnings or exaltations about this model? They're around for $570 a pair, and maybe I could get that closer to $450. I previously bought Klipsch reference centers/surrounds (for an extremely good price), and now I'm looking for some real fronts as a final upgrade and the PL-89 seems like an excellent value and fit for my system.
