You just missed some great deals on receivers because the new ones just came out and many of the last years models are hard to find now, especially in this price range. But take a look at this

Is your Wii HDMI?
No its not and thats a bummer.
If you take a look at the back of the 473, it has hookups for component. Is that what you need? I have never really looked at a Wii.

Hi all. I just purchased a set of PL-89 towers, a PL-28 center, and a pair of PL-66 surrounds from a fellow member. I was wondering if someone can recommend me a decent set of in-wall surrounds for me to use as side surrounds, while the 66s will serve rear-surround duty. I prefer an enclosed in-wall in the $200/pair range.

Thanks!

I use BIC FH8-W. They use the same tweeter as the PL-89 and have an 8 inch mid-range also. These pair with the PL-89s very well. They are about $120 per pair.

Here are the basics you'll need to decide:

1. HDMI?

2. 2.1, 5.1, 7.1, 9.1 or something else?

3. 2D or 3D?

4. Multiple zones?

Usually, the more expensive the receiver, the more power is has. More power does not mean LOUDER. Every time I've upgraded to more power, the receiver has sounded cleaner and better.
Get the most amount of power you can afford. Around 70-80 Watts per channel minimum...maybe? Over the years I've gone from about 50 to 80 to 100 to 110 to 150 WPC.

If this is your first AVR, I'd recommend to get a 2 or 3 year old used model. This will allow you to get a lot of AVR at a lower price.
I just purchased a brand new, last year's model AVR for $900. It was over $2200 just a few months ago.

My last receiver was not an HDMI receiver. It was B&K brand. Awesome receiver used for about $500. New was $2500-$3000.

There is always risk when you buy used electronics, but you can get so much more receiver going this way.

Mine are smooth on the bottom - no grip and no 'feet'. Luckily mine are on carpet. Regarding stock? - not sure but I know the surrounds are fresh since they had to wait for them to arrive from overseas.

I was sold on a definitive technology system. Then I seen the pl76 system for 1100 bucks! Wow its seems soooo cheap for these speakers. Can anyone tell me why theses are so cheap? And how will theysound compared to a higher end system like deftech or more comparibly klipsch? I hate that I can't go hear there's somewhere. I appreciate all imputed. Thanks

newc33,

Here is my comparison I did on 4/28/11. I did a direct comparison of my PL-89s to my much more expensive Niles PHD-60s.

I feel for you. I went through the exact same thing you are going through. I started with a PL-200 sub. This was SO good, I made the leap to entire system.

Has anyone used the PL-26 center with the PL-89s? I currently am using the PL-28 and am wondering how dramatic that downgrade might be. Only considering this due to a move, the size of the PL-28 has proven problematic.
^^^I would like to know as well because due to space restrictions in my custom entertainment center, I can only fit the PL-26...just barely. But I do plan on running the PL-89's. smile.gif

Yes. That would sound ok. Do you not have room for the pl28?
No I ordered the pl26 when I was going with pl76 so I'm kinda stuck with pl26 but I hope it will go ok with pl89's
post #3894 of 4070
Your pl26 will go great with the pl89s. That is the set up I have along with 4 pl66 and it sounds great. You will not be disappointed. These speakers are great for theater sound.

suggestions....

here's my setup

polk SDA 2a = main front L & R
klipsch synergy KSF C5 = center
klipsch quintets = front presence L & R
polk rti4 = surround L & R
klipsch quintets = rear surround L & R
BIC Acoustech PL200 = sub

Yamaha RX-A1000 = AVR
Adcom GFA 555 = 2 channel amp powering my main fronts left and right speakers.

den dimension = 15 x 20 ft., 8ft height.

we are moving to a new house this weekend. the closing of the house is this coming tuesday. i know i have mixed speakers and after all the research or reading from this website, my speakers aren't really timbre matched. i want to upgrade it to match everything. the quintets and polk rti4's for my surrounds and rear surrounds is what i'm considering changing first. the front stage will come later as they are more expensive.

i want to replace my surrounds and rear surrounds with 4 bic america FH-6T. why i choose these is to prepare it for a klipsch front. i want my home theater to be an all-out horn loaded speakers. im still dreaming of the RF-7ii's for the main fronts and RC 62ii as the center but that will come in later as they are soooo expensive $$$$!

my question is.....are the bic america FH-6T speakers going to timbre match in sound quality for a total klipsch front?

anybody here using emotiva amps to power these bic acoustech speakers?

thanks for the help! biggrin.gif

I used an Emotiva UPA-7 with my old PL89, PL28, and PL66 setup.

I just want to share this to everybody here. I bought a power condtioner at monoprice for $98. Looks really good. Looks like one of those monster $400 conditioners. I also got banana plugs and 12gauge speaker cables from monoprice.com. really good deals!
