AGP hd2600 pro 512mb - worth it for temp use

ok. I want to play 1080P HD videos. Currently they will stutter, play real slow, or not at all.
720P and 1080i have no problems at all. Not interested in game performance just 1080P

My computer: P4 Asus P4P800
P 4 3Ghz 478 socket
3 GB ddr ram
ATI 800 XL AGP

Will eventually get 1080P plasma and stand alone blu-ray later this year.

for $100 would the AGP :visiontek 2600 pro 512mb (not xt) be worth it?

Thanks for coments.

Hi,

I have a very similar machine that I use as an HTPC for the bedroom. If I was sure that I could get HD/BD playback with this machine and that video card I would certainly do it for $100.00. The thing is, I am not sure one would get smooth HD/BD playback even with the 2600pro. Anyone out there know for sure?

Also, I have read that Saphire plans to release the latest ATI 3XXX series in AGP....

JAHarris. Thanks for the reply. I'm not quite ready for the blu-ray player/plasma expense yet and don't feel like overhauling the desktop at this time.
I think I may hold out for the ATI 3XXX series in AGP and by that time I can decide if stand alone setup vs the new agp card.
