Upgrade of Demo HD1000

Hi all,

So, I am getting really close to getting an HD1000 from Gentraders and I just wanted to post the list of parts I need as a sanity check...

1) IEEE1394 card (which is probably still on backorder) #VEPS5017A
2) Head Cylinder #VEHS0578
3) Remote Control #VSQS1578

Is there anything I am missing?

I hope that the IEEE boards become available soon... :)

Cheers!

I just called Panasonic and they said that they cannot sell the 1394 board. So I didn't order anything :(

Back to the drawing board...

WOW. Is this true? This goes against everything Gentraders and several others claimed from having talked to Panasonic. I'm glad I didn't buy one.

This is what I was told by the agent I spoke to today - no purchases, just repairs. Your mileage may vary... Perhaps they have had too many people want them, and so no more sales...

I don't think that Gentraders have tried to pull the wool over our eyes. Just bad luck for them.

Good thing I didn't buy the deck before trying to order the parts...

Noticed that gentraders hve a new bunch of HD1000's on ebay. They are still stating that the board is available and that they have some ordered and have a confirmation from Panasonic. Whats the real deal, is the board available or not? Or do I have $300 worth of spare parts?

I am just relaying what I was told - "No, you cannot buy that board". I only tried once with one service agent. You may get different results.

If anyone else has been 'allowed' to back order this board since 12/12/01 then they should let us know.

For now I am pursuing the JVC 30000u route, as I don't have a tape archive and it offers more for the future...

I also bought a deck from Gentraders and called Panasonic to order the digital board about 10 days ago. The agent looked up a note on the computer and told me that they could not sell the board (which is out of stock until April 9, 2002) and that I would have to send the deck to a Panasonic California repair center. The number given turned out to be DVD repairs only and the number they gave me there was another service center with a 20 minute wait for calls already stacked up. I have not checked back yet. I think the deck is worth $300 for parts or to transfer the board into when the other deck wears out mechanically.
I also prefer the demo heads for more reliable playback and those are not available from Panasonic.
They may want the decks to go back for repair because Panasonic has made a deal to add copy protection whenever possible. That would be alright with me since this was to be a spare playback only deck.
If anyone gets a clear answer as to whether Panasonic repair will replace a missing board before I do, please post.

Are you surmising or do you know this for a fact?

Sorry. I should have said that any deal to add copy protection is just a guess on my part. I wonder why Panasonic pulled the boards out in the first place if they weren't trying to accomodate "those guys", but this is all guess work on my part.
