Panasonic PZ800 line NOT THX certified in Europe!

Hi there!

I just got the word that Panasonic's PZ800 line will NOT be THX certified in Germany (and thus Europe). "THX is no big deal here in Europe, the Americans are more enthusiastic about it" were his words.
And the PZ850 line won't come out in Europe for the time being (he said he doesn't know whether or not Panasonic might release it later, around the IFA in Berlin for example).
He also told me (not quite sure if I can believe him on that) that the European PZ800 will have the advanced picture-setup-menu of the American PZ850 - which would indeed make a PZ850 obsolete over here.
Because if I can get a PZ850 without THX for about the same price than a PZ800 with THX I would gladly take it - as long as all the scalers and deinterlacers are of the same quality as the ones built into the THX certified units (THX demands quite high performance standards in those fields).
The PZ800 will be released here in Europe in June BTW.
Stay tuned!!

I was on my way to order a TH50PZ700 when I discovered that models will be released soon.

Will the PZ80 be released earlier than the PZ800 in Europe please (I'm in Paris/France)?

Can't wait until june without tv... (sold my previous plasma to a friend)

What is the word on the pricing of these? Will they be similar to the models they replace?

Hi,

Is this still applicable ?

Best regards,

who cares?

I would rather not have the THX myself. it's a gimmick.

SkyCyberguy (or someone else), I'm trying to find out if the PZ800 supports H.264/Mpeg-4 or not. If I look at USA-specs it does not seem to have it, but German and Swiss Panasonic specs seems to say the opposite (if I understand what is written in german).

Anyone who can tell me what is correct? I live in Sweden I should say, so it is the european model that is interesting.

I know it doesn't really apply to those in the U.S. but may be of interest to others.

I've been contacted today by a dealer here in Slovakia telling me the TH-50PZ80E is available now and the TH-50PZ800E will be available here end of next week.

Berkan,

I haven't looked right through it but maybe there's an answer to your question in this -

PZ800 end of next week, wow! Hope it's true and that Sweden isn't far behind.
Thanks for the pdf, it says that PZ800 has a dvb-t h264 tuner, feels like the 800E does indeed include an mpeg-4-decoder.

Interesting if it comes to pass.

Hi Spizz,

he called me last Friday afternoon and said the 50PZ800E was available immediately. I've no reason to doubt him (he's an independant dealer/calibrator) who's supplied my other A/V gear as promised when it was made available here in Slovakia.

I've decided to hold back a bit longer (even though it's very frustrating!) as I really want the 9G Pioneer and want to see what the eventual prices are going to be here. Shouldn't have to wait too long as I understand there's going to be some info released by Pioneer at the High End show in Germany next week.
