Trying to hook up my X1950 to my HDTV via DVI, no resolution looks right

Hi all,

Last night I connected my PC to my 52" projection HDTV via a DVI port on the back of the TV. It works (kinda), but the bottom and sides of the screen are always cut off. It doesn't matter what resolution I pick, it still gets cut off. I messed with all the advanced settings, but I can't get it to format the image correctly. The image always gets chopped and my text looks pretty fuzzy.

I tried every resolution available to me, and none of them look right. Right now its at 1776x1000 only because its nearly usable if I double the size of the start menu.

Anyone have any suggestions?

btw, running XPsp2, Radeon X1950 (AGP), Latest Omega Drivers, TV is an RCA 52" Widescreen Projection HDTV w/ Digital Tuner, R52WH74

(see here: hXXp://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4872141 )

thanx!

You are seeing the overscan on the set. You will need to use the catalyst utilities to "shrink" down the output of the htpc to match your tv if you don't want part of the screen cut off. On mine, it's about 1790x1000.

I think I tried that last night, but it would only adjust for the component cables, and not for the DVI output.

I am gonna reinstall the catalyst software tonight and see if it makes a difference.

reinstalled ctalyst and windows, still no luck.

I did get it to go to a decent resolution that all fits on the screen, but now it flickers constantly. Any advice?

Here is what I did on my TV
Mine is a 32" LCD with native resolution of 1366x768.
Though 720p looks a lot sharper.

This is what I did to get the 1366 resolution to work on the latest drivers.

go to CCC and enable 1080i support on the hdtv section.
set the standard 1080i resolution and apply it
this resolution will have overscan, plus it looks interlaced on my display.
Click the add button to create a custom resolution. use the buttons to remove overscan.
Once created, go to the windows display properties and apply 1366x768.

This is for the new drivers. If I dont go through all that I get underscan on the 1366 resolution, and no way to remove it.

Thats what I did to get my resolution to fit on the screen, but its still not quite right. It seems like a refresh rate issue, but I cant change that and keep my custom resolution.

Ok, My resolution is good, but like you my image looks interlaced. What can I do to correct it?

Providing that you have enough cpu/gpu horsepower, you could try using ffdshow to post process your video. There is also a utility called powerstrip that can help you tweak your video. Try powerstrip first and see what kind of results you get with that.

Your tv only supports 480i/480p/1080i.....and states a max horizontal res of 1200....so it won't get a whole lot better sorry to say.
