I am having my set calibrated tomorrow by Spencer Sight and Sound. I got a little nervous today when the owner of the company didn't know the model number to my set TH-58PE75U. I explained that it was a Costco model and that it was based on the PX series. He said that won't be a problem but it made me a little skittish.
He told me that they will first adjust the set to get 6500K White and then do something with the color space. I really couldn't listen at this point because I was getting a call on my other cell from a client and an email at the same time. I did catch the part though that most adjustments are done in the service menue and that the process takes about 90 minutes. He will give me a print out afterwards. He requested that I be there for the calibration as he wants to explain all of the steps to me.
He said that his tech just got back from an ISF meeting in Vegas and has several years of experience.
I had my set recently serviced and he replaced the D-Board, A-Board, Power Supply, and Input Board due to my floating blacks. The float has been reduced and the there is no longer a huge jump when adjusting picture. Previously, when I went between 13 and 14 on picture the set would jump in white level. The only thing about this fix was that I noticed more noise in the picture and that there is some fuzz around SD material that is very apparent in DVD menus.
I have not done any reference checks because I wasn't sure that was something you did with ISF calibration. I went online and the company is listed for on the ISF website. They use the following sensors:
Calibration Equipment BY Sencore VP-403C / ACP6500 / CP5000 / Color Pro III / IV
I went online and found only one reference to anyone having their set calibrated on the blu ray forum. He was pretty happy with the results but not overwhelmed. Spencer's website is www.HDTV4ME.com.
Could somebody give me some input? Also, list the steps of a typical ISF calibration for a plasma?
Thank you
