I thought this thread was going to be about the map "Crash." Do a search on COD4 bricking the 60's. Some people had problems earlier.

If you use a router then you might try checking your Network Settings on your PS3. Look for your NAT type.

Your NAT type should be 1 or 2. If you have NAT type 3 then you can have connection issues in general, and voice chat won't work. If you turn off UPnP then that should take care of that (worked for mine).

If you use a router then the PSN, and COD4, need to have ports open to run better. For mine I assigned my PS3 a static IP address, then enabled DMZ on my router and set the PS3 as its user. Basically, DMZ opens ALL ports for whatever is using it. Bad for a PC because it leaves you open to viruses. It's great for PS3 because you don't have to worry about a virus, and all games should run better without having to mess with your router.

I went to this site and it was super helpful. Good luck.

its not freezing up thr PS3 at all. and i have no connection problems at all either, its just the somtimes the game CLOSES itself and takes me back to the XMB. then i have to restart the game all over again.

I finished the single player game, and I have about 30 hours into the online part and it's never done that to me. I've had a couple freezes where I had to restart the machine, but nothing where the game closed itself.

I wonder if it's something simple like dirt on the disc? I had one cat hair on a disc and the game went haywire during an entire level.

Maybe the controller charge gets low and starts giving out the wrong instructions to the PS3? Try playing the game while the controller is plugged in and see if it continues.

it usually happens when a friend invites me to thier party and i select "NO". then it closes itself and takes me back to the xmb. the controller is always charged. and the disc is clean.

I have a 60GB but rarely does it ever crash and go back to the XMB. Maybe twice since
I had it. Never really a big issue. I have NAT Type 2 using 10Mbps High-Speed internet
using wireless with UPnP on because I use media servers.

I misunderstood you earlier. I've had it do that when leaving a private match or a party, but it just takes me to the in-game menu: where it says "Play Online", then I have to select that again. Once it took me all the way to the XMB when leaving a private game.

I think it's a game glitch with the party system in COD4, not anything wrong with your PS3. Just keep inviting if you get separated from your friends or have them invite you again. A patch is coming in March that will (hopefully) take care of little bugs like this. Thats what the devs promise anyway.

Happens to me once in a while. I think it's some kind of a bug in the COD code that if you receive too many invites and don't accept them, it boots you like your not online any more.
