HI,

i do not want to use anything but MCE2005 (or vista MCE)
i like the ease of use (plus having a wife and kid) and everything being in 1 place.
i have no interest in OTA (Cant understand why anyone does)

so after reading and reading.
which will get me CAM in MCE?

Autumnwave
AverTV combo PCIe
HDhomerun (i aleady have an Nvidia Dual tv tuner) which has been great until i got an HD TV and HD channels.

i also have an HD STB (Cable)

i also find it interesting that no one has mentioned the decklink Intensity pro for actual HDMI capture.

and a big thanks to Renethx for his huge post.
very helpful. as a guy who posts in 11 pro audio/video forums i can appreciate the time it took.

a noob HTPC (HD) guy

I'm assuming you mean unencyrpted QAM cable channels... as opposed to CAM.

If you are looking for a QAM tuner that works with Media Center the HDHomerun and Avermedia M780 are the only two choices that I know of. Between the two, I'd say it depends what you are looking for... the HDHomerun is a dual Digital Tuner (ATSC or QAM) device that connects to your PC over ethernet. The M780 is a PCIe Single Digital Tuner with a single analog (ATSC) Tuner.

Also, keep in mind that QAM support is not built into media center so both of these companies have come up with drivers and utilities that allow you to trick media center into mapping QAM channels to ATSC channels.
