I liked Remote Control. At least the bonus round involved music videos; not really a music show for the purists but it was entertaining and a cool diversion from the videos.
Now The Real World
, which was the blueprint for many a reality show today and didn't focus on music or music videos in any way is a better example.
MTV is more about the young people's lifestyle than about being a mere music video channel. Then again, I haven't seriously watched MTV in well over a decade and I'm in my mid-twenties. When I think about the music video artform and how experimental videos were, I think the real downfall of MTV was when the 80s ended.
