Then I'll be in need of an amp. The Generalissima is already giving me THE LOOK
! I won't pass judgement on the setup until I get those things taken care of. Right now...I really dunno. For 2-channel, it's surely better than the JBL's. But 'perfect' for me? Er....can't say yet.
I almost said that you'd be "eating Mac & Cheese for years"...but I like M & C and wouldn't mind that diet, lol.
LOL- about both the mac and cheese, and the UPS special!
actually, we eat a fair amount of Ramen around here, not "Top-Ramen" though. We get the instant stuff in a Japanese market. I am a huge fan of Miso Ramen. My wife and I even frequent a couple of noodle houses in Little Tokyo... mmmmm, good!!!

Those look great Tim!
I might just take you up on that one buddy. I have a few "high-end" radio shack IC's (about 5yrs old) and they seem well made, but I figure if I am going this far I may as well replace them too... Plus yours look better! (and I have never been a fan of Radioshack anything)
This brings up a whole new set of questions... I was thinking that since I will have balanced connections, for the first time (TP -> amp, and eventually TP->pre->amp), I should use them. From what I have read this shouldn't make too much of a difference unless my cables are long, but I figured I would use them anyway. Have any of you guys compared SQ between balanced/unbalanced?
Also connecting the Transporter to my computer: at first I plan to try the wireless through a router to my iTunes library (up to now this has been to fuel my iPod, but eventually I am going to get a Mac-mini (+ hard drive) to set up as a music server / HT-PC. Connecting it to the TP I want to run through a wire, and re-rip my 1000+ CD's in a lossless format. I know that FLAC seems to be preferred by audiofiles, but with a Mac platform and iTunes there are (or were) some issues. So I figured Apple Lossless would be the best solution. Any arguments for or against that, or other options on a Mac. I also want to find a good ripper, iTunes seems okay, but not great. Even with the error correction on it glitches up on a few CD's that I own. Any ideas for that? of course it needs to jive with the Transporter...

And gratz on the Halo purchase too. I haven't heard one before, but I am sure it will drive the HT3's with more than enough gusto!
Thanks Michael. I've even kicked around the idea of bi-amping them with the Halo
after all I will be 3.0, at first (until I either build a set of surrounds, or decide on something to use there, but most significantly will be for me to be able to convince my wife that we "need" two more speakers in the livingroom
) Rydenfan tipped me off to the iPhone/iPod touch as remote thing a while ago, I've been looking forward to that, ever since. I am leaning toward the Touch for RC, also can be used to control the Mac-mini (I am a simple phone as phone kind of guy)... but that's a ways away.

of course I will, but it will be a while. I just hid the invoice as soon as it arrived
...so far so good

I just want to publicly thank both you and Tim for all the help and advice you guys have given me over the last several months... You've both proved to be a tremendous help. My wallet hates you both, by the way
You guys are the best... (and I'm not even drunk

For cables...well, I am one of those guys
that feels exotica cables are a waste of money. They may
in fact change the sound, but never in a positive way in my experience. I am currently using Blue Jeans and Audio Quest cables (not the expensive AQ stuff). I've tried Kimber and some expensive Audio Quest stuff. While I did notice a slight difference with the Kimber, after extensive listening I realized that it was adding to the signal rather than letting it pass through. I then went with the Blue Jeans and cheaper AQ and couldn't be happier. YMMV.
<<flame suit engaged>>
P.S. And yes, the system was "high end" and/or "transparent" enough to be used as a testing station for cables.
Thanks, brother. I don't think anybody is going to flame you too much around here.... at least I hope not. Hmmm, maybe thats it. You haven't heard Hendrix through the proper cables yet ???
(just kidding, I couldn't resist
Since I'm thanking you guys today, thanks Nuance. I hope that you know that you too have been a great help in my quest for audio enlightenment.
Actually thanks to all you guys that have participated, and continue to participate in our little family of threads. I, for one, continue to appreciate all the help, ideas, questions and answers, and more than anything the positive attitude that seems to prevail in these parts.
