Just to let Everyone Know, American Gangster is going to be on the "Dead" format

Well, the dead format is still going to be the only ones getting American Gangster, Beowulf, Sweeney Todd, Charlie Wilson's War, and many other movies in the next few months.

Is the war over, yes.

Will Para and Uni switch to Blu Ray? yes.

Will they do it within the next couple of months? NO, NO, and NO.

They may announce something, but it will take months and months.

So unitl then, I hope all you HD DVD haters enjoy either:

1)Waiting like a fool, ESPECIALLY IF YOUR PURPLE

2)Begrudgingly buying the HD DVD.

Bitter?

Not at the format war, but at Blu Fans rubbing it in, much like yourself.

I'm dual format, with nearly as many BDs as HDs.

One format had to win eventually, that was pretty obvious.

But I just hate to read what I'm reading on this site.

Some people in here really take this thing so personally its insane, and it rubs me the wrong way.

If I sound bitter it is because Blu Boys made me that way, not the result of the format war.

I was furious as well, but I thought to myself, who can be blamed here? In the real world the only thing that matters is $$$$ nothing more nothing less. Sure we can bask in the glory of having exclusive titles for a few months, but let's not tout at others. Let's purchase all the HD DVD movies we can and keep supporting HD DVD!

It'll be on blu-ray eventually, for now we can just upconvert...
uhhhh.....if toshiba announces it is through with hddvd this week as many expect, paramount will have blu-ray discs on store shelves within 4 weeks, and likely sooner....

universal on the other hand is going to take awhile

Think again...Sweeney Todd won't see the light of day on HD-DVD. Paramount is pressing on Blu-Ray as we speak. I will also enjoy Transformers on Blu-Ray in a few weeks 50GB and lossless audio. Something HD-DVD was not capable of.

Looking at the release calendar, not all that many other movies. And I'm thinking that HD DVD may not even see all of the ones you just mentioned.

Universal had some excellent HD DVD releases so yes, I believe they will take their time to make some primo BD titles for the masses.

This actually begs a poll question.

If your dual format, are you going to simply buy the HD DVD exclusive titles as they are released, or will you wait for the Blu Ray version.

At least with a poll like that, if its public, you'll know the Blu Ray fans that just love High Definition and watching movies, and the names of the ones that will wait just because they are in love with Blu Ray itself.

If a tree falls in the forest but there is no one there to hear it, does it make a sound?

You are assuming that if Toshiba does pull the plug this week that all of these will actually ship to retail and be put out on the shelves. Unfortunately at this point only Universal and Paramount know their plans for these movies.

This guy most work for Paramount, Universal, Sony, and Toshiba all at once... Damn what's next? Will WWIII be started by machines, will a giant comet strike earth tomorrow, please tell us!

Guys and gals, you don't have any ideas whats going on behind closed doors right now. Toshiba may stop production of all HD hardware, but its partners have obligations to fulfill, so when an official announcement is made, then do tell.

Yes, but not in lossless audio.

I am not sure i get your point, should Blu-Ray supporters be bitter that we miss one title while the "other" side misses 75% of the market?

yeah, thats kinda what happens.

Person A is rational

Person B comes along and bugs and bugs and taunts Person A.

Person A retaliates and thus becomes irrational, just like Person B.

its called the, THE WAY IT WORKS.

Heck, even a pacifist Buddhist Monk can eventually be provoked to action.

From your first post, it's not clear if you're Person A or B. I'd say B since you concede that all those movies you cite will become available on Blu-ray in a couple months yet seem completely oblivious to all those movies that will never ever get released on HD-DVD. To quote you, if anyone is waiting like a fool, it's the HD-DVD devotee, who like Godot, waits for something that will never arrive. At least the Blu-ray devotee will eventually get what he waits for. Seems to me you qualify as the irrational one.

I think we will see americain gangster for sure but those other titles who knows. It very hard to say at this point those discs could just not be made.
Look at the paramount deal up until the day before blades of glory was set to come out on bluray. But then the switch and the movie was droped right their..
Its juist a matter of how long this has been planed. If studios knew ahead of time wether or not they stoped production on new pressings of newer movies.

Rubbing WHAT in? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but to "rub it in" is to tease someone's bitterness by purposely trying to make them more bitter than they already were.

If you weren't bitter in the first place, there would be nothing to rub in...because you weren't bitter.

PS. If I had to rate this thread on the bitter-scale, I'd rate it an 7.8, which is slightly more bitter than cheap beer not quite as bitter as orange peels.

Just a guess, But I think you might be one of the very people he might be talking about.

There's no need to pay good money for a dead format (what our highly enlightened OP suggests), when one can simply wait a little for the rest of the titles to come. What's more, there's plenty to watch on the blu side until such time.

I really don't get why the OP is so bitter about all this.

I agree. I was all for HD DVD, but it's game over and what can I do? I'm actually stuck with three red movies (was able to return my player).

I'll chill and wait for BD player prices to come down and then I'll bite. No big deal for me. No use wasting emotional energy on this crap anymore and I hope the other HD DVD fans can calm down as well.

It's a common psychological defense mechanism for people to shelter their bruised ego by direct their frustration at those who find joy in the source of their frustration.

Frustration = The demise of HD-DVD
Those who find joy = People who realize that one format is for the better (I guess they're also known as "Blu Boys")

Well, both Beowulf and Sweeney Todd have been announced by Warners for BD release in Europe/Australia, so those titles will be available in BD in the short term. American Gangster (which I have on HD DVD) doesn't look so hot (the film just doesn't have pop - not the fault of HD DVD, it's just the way the film looks), doesn't have a TrueHD track, only has the theatrical version in HD and doesn't include the 2hr making of documentary on the SD DVD. Not exactly a compelling title. And Charlie Wilson's War hasn't been officially announced as yet by Universal. How much do you want to bet that it never will be (at least on HD DVD)

Thats what gets me the most... is that some people were/are seriouslly emotionally disturbed over all of this. Really, there are more important things in life. It does speak volumes of just how well we have it though, when a grown man can be so terribly insulted because a luxury item like HDM didn't go his way. Its all about money to the providers. Why get so upset over how they take our money from us? I wonder if the children of Darfur care which format won? Seriously, there are more important things.
