BD-UP5000, price going to fall? - Page 2

Electronics Expo has it at the magical number of $500.88, with $29 shipping. I told myself that's the price I would bite at, but feel it'd be a good idea to see just how much gets fixed with the next firmware update that's supposed to come any day now.

The price has been steadily dropping on E-E for the last 3 days. I'm not quite ready to buy yet. Let's see if it drops some more.

I'm honestly shocked this player can have a $300+ markup on it; I can't imagine it going any lower anytime soon. I guess we'll see.
well you can buy the BD-UP5000 for $499.99 in Canada so yeah it looks like there is a significant markup on the player and until it proves its worth that price let alone the higher price I won't be touching it. i.e. if/when Samsung fixes the disc compatibility issues and they support the advanced audio codecs that they claimed on the package and brochures.

Damn, should have ordered yesterday. EE was down to $498, and today they've gone back up to list price of $799

Amazon is approaching the 500$ range now... shipping is free from them (and 2-day w/ prime). Still about the same as the EE price w/ shipping.

DataVision has it for $499 w/free shipping.

Is Datavision a reputable source of electronics? They and Electronics Expo look fishy to me, but Amazon is selling via them half the time I check their price so they must be legit.

They're one of Samsung's authorized dealers: http://www.samsung.com/us/peaceofmind/ceddealers.html

Good to know, thanks vinnie!

Don't know if you noticed, but EE is OUT of them. The 799 price is for a preorder. May drop back down when they get another shipment in.

EE is a bit shady because I tried to order it last night and the website kept giving me errors during ordering. So I waited until this morning and called them and they guy denied that price existed. He said it was $799 and that $499 was below their cost. I'm buying from DV. I'm going to use this as a backup player. I just hope it's true about an update to do bitstream audio to my Onkyo 905 Receiver. Thanks to kevydee for the heads up!!

$499 at London Drugs in Western Canada right now. Had to do a double take when I saw the price tag.

Same price as the 1400. Free HD DVD playback on the 5000 is nice I guess...

Well, that doesn't seem to work. I submitted an order yesterday and it took it, but I never got a confirmation email. My credit card was not charged either. When I try to see order status, it says "New" with no details. I have a feeling they have no intention to process that order. Not sure why they keep that price available if they don't process orders at it.

refurb $499 at secondact.com

I got the BD-UP5000 from Best Buy for $640 with a coupon. My 30 return window is coming soon. I'm wondering since it's being discontinued (May?), should i return it and wait to see if the promised updates show up and hope to get it cheaper than $640 when it's discontinued later on?
Thanks everyone!!

In Canada Future Shop has them listed at $900 and on sale for $800. Visions.ca has them for $500 regular price. I got Future Shop to beat the Visions price by 10% when it was at the $900 price a few weeks ago, so I picked one up for $460. Obviously the cost has dropped.

I found where ABT Electronics is selling this thing for $498.75 w/free shipping. Hold out a little longer or buy?

FutureShop has brought the price of the Samsung BD-UP5000 (and LG BH200) down to $499 with the news of the future combo player (BD-UP5500) from Samsung being cancelled but does not meet the Visions.ca $439 price. Also, they likely brought the price down due to lack of future (May 2008) FW for the Samsung BD-UP5000 to fix the advanced audio codecs, profile 1.1 and disc compatibility - I hope I'm proven wrong and I may pick this player up myself but Samsung doesn't have a good track record.

This is a week or so after FutureShop dropped the price on the LG BH200 to $499 as well.

Best buy will be sellling the 5000 for $599 according to the new Sunday ad. 799 minus 200 dollar instant discount.

I think there is a ten percent rewards zone coupon floating around out there so potentially it could be 540

Great. Now if a 10-12% off Reward Zone coupon happens to show up in the mail tomorrow I'd be set.

No delivery on Sundays, and you can't go to the post office on Saturdays. Also, the US Postal Service takes off every single holiday on the calendar, many of which no one else gets off (like Martin Luther King Jr Day, President's Day, etc). I was kidding about the Boxing Day; U.S. doesn't recognize that one

What is it with these places advertising the best prices on the web and then ignoring you for 3 or 4 days? DV flaked out me and I had to cancel. ABT has my business now. I should have mine before next weekend. What does it take to get a combo player at a decent price? Just curious if there are any insiders out the there? Is the may update shooting for bitstreaming audio like the Sammy 1400, for sure? I hope so. Can't wait to get my combo player. Thanks to everyone for updates.

Where do you see this? What zip code are you in? Thanks!

You won't see it until tomorrow's Sunday flyer. I get the impression some people are just privy as to what will be in that flyer ahead of time.

FYI, i work for the USPS and the only people that automatically gets Holidays off are Letter Carriers. I'm always forced in because of my low seniority.

Wow, I didn't realize that. So they make all the behind-the-scenes people keep working, even though it's all for not since no one gets mail delivered? That's lame
