LNT4061F bad quality when hooked up to PC

Thread Starter
Hey Everyone,

I am hooking my Samsung LNT4061F up to my PC via a DVI to HDMI cable, and having a problem (or I think a problem) with quality.. When displaying at 1080p at full resolution, it just doesn't look very good at all. It isn't crisp, there is bad contrast with text, and some text shows up having a red or purple tinge around it.. I have an eVGA 8800GT, so I know it is powerful enough to handle the resolution. Does anybody have any tips, or better yet, know of any guides or calibration settins geared towards hooking this TV up to a computer?

Also, should I assume that the picture quality will be similar in sharpness to my 22" LCD computer monitor?

Have you enabled 1:1 Pixel Mapping?

I read that you have to manually adjust the setting to "Just Scan" (Menu->Picture->Size).

I am thinking of buying this monitor myself and using it for my PC monitor. Can you try this and post back your results? I just had to return a 42" HDTV because it didn't do 1:1 pixel mapping so the picture was crap (how you described) - it looked like a normal PC LCD running at a NON-native resolution... just awful. I was told the "Just Scan" of this model should correct that.

Also, can you comment on 'crushing blacks'? PC's output a color space of 0 - 255 for colors, but everything else (cable boxes, dvd players, TVs) use a reduced color space of something like 19 - 233 for colors. Because of this all of the blacks darker than 19 look identical and you get 'crushing blacks'. Have you noticed this? I looked through the manual, and it has a 'Home Theater PC' mode that you can turn on or off - I wonder if this correctly handles the color space?

I really want this monitor - I watch iTunes movies, HD-DVDs, regular DVD's all through my PC using a DVI-> HDMI connection, but my little 1920 x 1200 24" LCD just doesn't cut it.

PLEASE let me know how things work out for you.

I hope I helped.

Also make sure to turn the Sharpness all the way down.

A FUN GUY: Do you own this monitor? If so, can you respond to my questions in post #2?

Thanks!

I really don't have any crushing blacks im considering taking my TV back the has got me fed up and i think they switched to a worst processor making the picture not as good as the earlier models you can read about it here. DO a search for humming and you will get alot of complaints as always the official thread can be found here

No, but I owned the 65F series. And when I first hooked up my PC to this set I was unhappy with the clearity of the image, text was not crisp at all. Everything looked slightly blurred. Turning the sharpness off made text extremely crisp and clear, the way that it should look.

Thanks, Tyler.

Wuff, any updates?
the main reason for the lack of clarity with text when using this TV as a monitor is because of the video card. You mentioned you had a nvidia 8800. As far as I know right now that card does not have the option to use Image Sharpening within the NVIDIA Control Panel. If Nvidia ever fixes this or allows this as an option, you may not have to turn the sharpness all the way down.

no no no no i have the solution

tv ln-t4061f
dvi to hdmi
8800gts
vista 64bits

1 menu setup rename #1hdmi to pc
2 go to envidia control panel and rezize the image thats all perfect text in 1920x1080
sorry for my inglish

bueno aora en espanol que es mi idioma
solo tienes que entrar en nvidia control panel y ajustar el tamano
y eso te dara la claridad como cualquier pc monitor

But if you use resizing and deal with overscan, the text and image will be run as if it were at a non-native resolution. You must use 1:1 pixel mapping.
