Denon 3808/4308/5308 Firmware Tracking Thread - Page 69

Updated my 3808CI this morning to 1.95 without error. Looks like update is in preparation for the new features coming. Going to Add New Feature now displays two new panels about the Upgrade package, registration info (logically it says "Not Registered"), and a ID number. There is a new button that allows you to check the status with the Denon server.

Thanks for reporting your update. Denon change logs listed first post.

Firmware update for AVC-A1HD - (5308CI equiv). Just done this - took 110 minutes - updated DSP and Ethernet according to screen + it's added Dynamic Volume into the Add feature screen - doesn't appear to have added feature but the again in the UK Denon expect us to pay £75 for this feature.
Has anyone yet established if I buy a 3808 today whether the firmware upgrade Audessey Dynamic Volume etc) is thrown in, or will it need the additional $100 fee?

Thanks

If anyone knows about the "add new feature" option, please let us know on cost, is it software/hardware, etc. Called Denon and they had no idea. They directed me to a Service Center who had even less of an idea. Is this so new there are no details?

Thanks,
Chris

"Add New Features" will probably mainly be software/firmware type downloads. How they will be announced is anyone's guess. There is one "scheduled" for Oct which will allow activating Audyssey Dynamic EQ, Dynamic Volume, etc. I have no idea what the etc. would be, however.

Hopefully Denon will be a lot more forthcoming about what's available, what it costs, how you will remain entitled to it once you've paid, etc. They certainly don't see fit to make any kind of announcements about when firmware updates are available, what they fix, etc.

I bought my 3808 on Tuesday so three days ago and it shipped with 1.57 so no Dynamic Volume. Didn't receive any kind of documentation or rebates for it either so I'm assuming no.

Denon definitely is preparing for the release of the features. When I run "Add new feature", I get a popup saying there is no upgrade I bought and I should visit the Denon website.

When quitting the popup, I get a list of the available upgrade packages:
  • Audyssey Dynamic EQ
  • Audyssey Dynamic Volume
  • HMDI Control

The German Denon site now says that the "Exclusive Upgrade" will be available from October, but no price yet. So I guess technically the upgrades are available.

Mwomwell, I'm also seeing this 110 minute firmware update. Have you had any problems (specifically networking issues) since doing this very long update?
Just finished updating 1.73 Sub 88 to 1.95, and it went without any problems.

This time though the update process almost gave me a heart attack... I happened to be sitting next to one of the rear speakers right after it started applying to "Sub Firm", and a loud pop went through all the speakers, sending me flying off the sofa (I may have set some sort of olympic record in the process)

finished upgrading to 1.95 no problems....
had internet radio playing when the update started as mention by a poster earlier... when it finished the radio started playing and all internet stations were still there... thx

Update 1.95 for my 3808CI just finished, roughly about an hour. Hardwire connection (of course!). All versions match what is posted on the 1st page.

How do I make the Denon work with Vista or twonkymedia. I can't seem to get them to work together. I'm using a Linksys wired router and internet radio is working properly on the denon3808ci. I have no problem using the webrowser to set up the denon but can't get it to see eye to eye with twonky media or vista to stream music.

Thanks

No, update did take some while though and I did loose my internet favourites but no big deal and easily re-added.
Is 1.95 the update which includes the volume control? And is it the one one has to pay for?
^^^No, that will be on Oct. 1st
Updated my 4308CI to 1.95 this morning with no issues to report. I also cannot wait until October 1st!
Performed my "normal" steps:

Backed up config using Firefox 3
Reset microprocessor/config
Updated firmware
Restored config using Firefox 3

My 3808 is now at 1.95 ....

As of this writing all looks OK.

Captavs, Many thanks for your time and efforts.

Updated successfully with static IP, UPNP enabled on router, and using Comcast Cable.

Took about 100 minutes, but did not require any user intervention after starting.

Updated my 3808ci to 1.95 today.

Using Time Warner Cable in NE Ohio.
Hops to firmware server right at 30 now (used to be lower).
Connection could not be made, never had this problem before as my hops were always below 30 in the past.
Removed my router, and put cable modem directly on 3808ci, this reduced my hop count to 29. Firmware update completed successfully.

Current 1.95 firmware still enforces the 30 hop rule

I got the update done today. But, not without drama. It stopped with a message saying:
"SFLASH 31minutes. Update failed". I powered it off with the small button. When I tried to go into the GUI it was screwed up. No text, just colored blocks. I started to navigate to the update menu using the front panel display. Before I got there the 3808ci resumed the update process. Fortunately it finished without incident. It had me very concerned there for a few minutes.

Does anyone know whether it downloads the complete update, stores it and then does the flash, or does it stream the update?

black88mx6, how do you check how many hops it is to the update server? If the server name or IP is known, I can use a traceroute app to do it, I know that much. Do the Denon machines have a method for checking that? I have never seen that option. How do I access it?

Phil

You can add 'New Zealand' to the 3808 firmware 1.95 *LATEST EUROPEAN* updates. No problems, approx 75 minutes to complete - all version numbers match.
Just updated Australian 3808 to 1.95, 60 minutes, all versions match.
Finished my Latest upgrade successfully on Denon 3808.

Did not lose my config or audyssey values, but the Favourites list on the main menu in my NET radio disappeared. However the favourites submenu in the "Internet radio" showed all the favourite stations that i added (The new folder name i created for my favourites was also restored).

I also noticed that Denon has given an option called "Mic select" in the auto set up menus...I dont know if that existed previously?

Update took 59 min. with just one major issue - abnormal heart beat throughout the updating process :-) By the way i use Comcast for ISP and a 4 year old D-link router, wired connection ofcourse.

Cant wait till oct to get new features - Sirius ready, HDMI control,Audyssey Dyanmic volume etc..
