Having issues with a 3808 firmware update, followed all the steps, direct connection to my router verified good fast internet connectivity (50 Mbps cable), 5 min power off, retry always failing at 21 min sub firmware update. Receiver is effectively a brick at this point. Any suggestions? Has anyone updated in the last month successfully?

TRied again this morning, still the same issues. Gets to 21 min on "sub firm" and fails. Sent e-mail to denon, will see what they say.

Just did the Firmware upgrade on my 4308CI for the Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume. Firmware worked great however I can't turn on the Dynamic EQ or Dynamic Volume in the Audyssey menu. They are there now but they are not selectable. Is there a trick to doing this? Your help is much appreciated. smile.gif

Try running AUTO SETUP again.

is there one for 3808ci
I should have said New Feature Upgrade not Firmware. Thank you for your suggestion jdsmoothie. I was afraid of that. My dogs are never quiet when you need them to be. I am going to give that a try tomorrow morning.

Recalibrating the auto setup worked like a charm. Thanks for your help!

Sure. Also note that Audyssey must be enabled to use Dyn EQ which must be enabled to use Dyn Vol. Dyn EQ will boost the bass and surround channels at volume levels lower than the "reference" volume of 0db which can sometimes be too strong for TV and music source dialogue from the center channel. The newer models that feature Dyn EQ/Vol also come with another feature called "Reference Level Offset" which can be set to 10db to improve the center channel dialogue for TV and music sources. You can do the same by setting the "Source Level" setting for the cable/sat box or music source to -10db which will then require you to raise the master volume louder to get to the same level as before, thereby decreasing the impact of Dyn EQ.

Is it really necessary to update the firmware?

I cant tell you what firmware it currently has, but I can tell you it (3808) was purchased in July of '09.

I have no complaints as it has served me very well.

Probably the biggest reason as to why I haven't upgraded the firmware is because my router is far away from where the 3808 is located. I know I could just take the 3808 closer to the router, but it's in a cabinet and has alot of wires connected to it. Just too much drama. If I decide to ever upgrade the firmware I will buy a looooong ethernet cable.

Here is what I have connected to the 3808:

- 80" Sharp LED
- "Phat" PS3 used mostly for BR and some gaming
- Apple TV
- Panamax M5300-PM
- (2) DefTech towers BP7002
- (1) DefTech center speaker C/L/R 2300
- (4) Speakercraft AIM8 mounted in ceiling

So the question is, am I missing anything by not upgrading the firmware? Also, is there a way to find out which firmware is installed on my 3808?

TIA!

You may find that you are "too far" in Internet terms. The older/original versions of firmward had a TTL lilmit in terms of the number of hops from you to the servers in the Far East. See http://www.avsforum.com/t/995566/denon-3808-4308-5308-firmware-tracking-thread/1890#post_14624643 onwards.

(Try a traceroute to the IP given and count the hops...)

Thanks for the response, I did a "hard reset" 5 times and turned off UPNP in router. So i have updated to 2.04... and know i have ordered Upgraid kit

When I try to navigate to those pages, I get this message:

Has there been any new firmware released for the 3808 recently? I think mine has the latest version already, but I'm not sure.

No updates for quite a while now, but don't remember when last one was. Not sure what's up with Captavs firmware pages, but later today I can pull my versions and post them if you want.
