Would you be so kind and provide the contact information for Denon firmware developers? Members may be wary of giving out their MAC address and wish to contact Denon firmware developers directly.

I was watching the led's on the cable modem noticing activity (good), but seeing the local connection LED going off occasionally. I said hmmmm. Up at the receiver I put a switch between the modem and receiver. The link for the receiver drops every once in a while then turns back on (like the Denon is re-initializing the ethernet adapter), but just goes through the loop.

I reset it (soft) to keep it from re-attempting a firmware download and low and behold I can LEAVE it attached to my network (by this time I put my router/infrastructure back in place). I was able to re-configure all of my inputs and assignments (that's ALL I do so far until this thing is stable).

Internet radio works, btw..1st time I have tried it, might have to use it, eventually, but leaving the lan cable off for now.

My current firmware versions are, well, a mixture. List below (using the Denon firmware instructions 'names')

Main - 1.69
Sub - 0.78
DSP1 - 36.56
DSP2 - 39.45
FPGA - 00.50 (unchanged)
GUI Config - A070629B (unchanged)
GUI Serial - P0007621 (unchanged)
- D37750008 (different but might be normal)
DM850 BL - 200707020733 (unchanged)
DM850 IMG - 200709050353
DM850 WEB - 200709050354
DM850 CNE - 20070905

Looks like I still have f/w from September.

Yes, your IMG, WEB, and CNE did not update. They are listed as being firmware 1.57 module revisions.

Anyone notice that when playing an DTS-HD HR track it now shows up as an DTS surround on the receiver? I put in Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life German HD DVD import and when I had the 1.28 version it was showing DTS-HD HR when I selected the track. Any ideas?

Ran the firmware update this morning on a new 3808CI. All went well until the final module (Ethernet) failed to update. Tried it a few times more to no avail. Went into router and turned off UPnP. Update completed successfully and all seems to work well.

I would still be banging my head against the wall were it not for this thread. Thanks!

Just got my 3808, updating went without a hitch! Firmware numbers are the same as other European users are reporting (I'm from Greece).

Everything works fine here, internet radio and music streaming, song titles are changing properly, etc.

I just have one question with regard to GUI which may or may not be a bug (I didnt bother reading the manual, I found the receiver quite easy to set up). The OSD will go blank after a few seconds, and will come on again after a command is issued (or even when the song title changes on internet radio). Originally I assumed that this is simply how the display works, but I had to ask

Cheers,
Michael

Are your song titles changing on the internet stream without interaction from the remote?

Also, I believe the OSD display length for internet/USB is a setting you can adjust to keep it on if you want.

Yup! At least on the station I was listening to, which was the 80s hair bands station, under the Rock genre.

Thanks for the tip on the OSD!
After doing some checking it seems that the song title change works on some stations but not on others. Strange!
ok, that seems to confirm what the rest of us are seeing then. I will try the station you mentioned. I listen to LiteFavorites alot and the song doesn't change without user interaction after starting the station. Thanks for checking!

Thanks for the tip on the OSD!

Maybe Denon only updates song info for 80's rock.

Station http://www.kqlz.org Pirate Radio (broadcasting over the Internet from Southern California) also updates song info and shows in cycles news in the song field.

Try it out by adding link below to your Radiodenon.com

BTW, when I press the NET/USB button, it doesnt bring me back to the initial selections (internet Radio, USB, media servers, etc.). Instead, display just shows the present action. I find it very annoying that the only way to get to the top menu is by repeatedly pressing the return or left arrow buttons. Is there any workaround to quickly get back to the top menu selections for NET/USB?

EDIT: Tried out that station, way cool!

Is this issue not returning to menu like #3 in bugs for firmware 1.69 list in first post this thread? In firmware 1.57 when stopping a stream it would return to the previous menu. Now it just sits there on the stopped station.

Found that 80's rock station on Shoutcast browsing around one day. Added the station to my http://www.radiodenon.com.

Even under firmware 1.57 the song/track info updated for this station when the song changed. This the only station I ever noticed working properly with song/track showing and updating when I was running 1.57. Denon receivers like 80's rock
post #104 of 3803
Just went to update my 3808CI US version from 1.57 to the most recent version; as I have in the past with all previous firmware updates.

It went through the installation process OK, lasting about 36-38 minutes or so. Once completed, the unit power cycled itself and came back on, however I noticed no audio outut nor any video output to my display device.

Upon looking at the issue further, the reciever was going through all the proper "motions" however the left hand side of the display LCD didn't state ANY incoming source signal. I switched through tuner, NetAudio, my Comcast cable box, etc. however it still indicated no incoming audio signal and would not output any sound.

At this point, I went through the system restoration/reset process as listed in this thread, which immediately restored sound on selected inputs and a video signal being outputted. I then attempted to recover from my 1.57 backup file, however once restored the same problems came back - no video output, sound output, etc.

Luckily I use command3808, a software program written by a member on this site and used that program to QUERY all of the existing variables. I then printed up each variable that was set and then factory reset the DENON again. Once reset, I then used the Command3808 program to reprogram my variables and I was up and running.

Despite a few glitches (resetting) along the way, I am now very pleased to have ID3 tags streaming through NETAUDIO again versus the Station ID; an issue I first reported on the glitch thread, to Denon USA and to Denon Jeff. Well worth the "hassle!"

Thanks!

Dumb question: How do I find out the versions for all of the firmware modules on my 4308? I looked all through the GUI and can't find it.

I did the firmare upgrade today. I left the room while it was occuring, but when I came back it was giving me an error message about the network being unavailable. I had to do a hard reset in order for networking to function again. If I go to firmware update, the AVR-4308 reports that I have the latest version. I would like to verify that myself.

I tried to update 4308's fw but GUI displays: Login failed
post #113 of 3803
I found this msg after a google search about 4308 update fw login failed:

"While the receiver is off hold down the up/down arrows on what looks almost like a jog dial on the front panel behind the flap and press the main power on button(not the standby button)"

I tried it and now on GUI I see: Mainfirm 1/14

Sub Firm 57min

I hope it's ok.

So, does anyone recommend downloading this update right now. The reason I ask is I'm using the BDP-S1 so it doesn't bitsream, it internally decodes and I don't use the internet radio. Just don't wanna take a chance of bricking my unit.

If you decide to update check first post in this thread for tips, and links to instruction and follow closely. Good luck!

Sounds like maybe an intermittent network connectivity problem.

Try checking IP address of your receiver using ping:

http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1904324,00.html

Reboot the network router. Then try rebooting the receiver using small power button. Check all the notes above for what might be causing the problem based on others experience.

Yes the 4308 has web page control of the receiver. Although the web page control not fully functional in early firmware releases.

Try hard reset of the receiver.
