Recording Cable broadcast with LG DR1F9H

Does anyone know if the Grex unit will allow me to record cable tv/movies with my LG DVD Recorder? I can only record protected content on DVD-RW in VR Mode and cannot copy that to my pc or watch DVD on any other dvd players? I am new at this stuff and could use some advice...thanks.
