My son was playing with power bar and flicked off switch...

I will have to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Thanx!

As soon as you cut the power to the bulb it starts to cool down. It just takes longer before it gets cool enough to restart. Other parts of the projector might overheat, however.

9700 hours on bulb, optoma ep739, runs 10-12 hours a day as main computer display and tv.

I asked this question, and got a 'ear' full....it seems the trend for a UPS dedicated to the PJ was climbing and I asked why....

I got a lashing from people who don't seem to get it.

I have pulled the plug, had the PJ plugged into a switched outlet, and used the 'no cool down' hard power switch more times than I can count.

No problems.

One caveat is that I have a DLP, and I think LCD's may be different or require a cooler optic path. But I have no idea, actually.

Failure to "cooldown" has no impact whatsoever on the lamp, none, PROVIDED you don't turn it back on again right away. While the filament is still hot, it is most vulnerable to a failure if another "start-up" surge of current is allowed immediately to spike thru it again. That would be a Bad Thing. But most projection products endeavor to disallow this anyway w/internal timers.

The hot lamp's failure to complete its cool-down cycle, so heat is allowed to build-up inside, could affect the product's internals, depending on the internals. Anything plastic nearby to the lamp is not gonna like it. YMMV.
