Add my little theater to the list.

It's only 10 x 21 x 8 but it has all the goodies.

Well I'm still in the planning stages of building a dedicated theater in my unfinished basement. The dimensions are 13 ft x 19 ft. the ceiling is 9 ft. but there is duct work.
Here is a shot looking into what will be the theater:

basement long view

I was wondering, and I hope this is the right place to ask, would it be beter to enclose the duct work, or lower the ceiling to 8 ft. I ask this because I want to do sofits with rope lighting in the room. Will it look weird if I keep the ceiling at 9ft and build around the duct work and still have sofits around the room with lighting. I haven't really noticed any theaters that had this dilema. Any advise is greatly appreciated. I'll look for some better pics of the duct work.

I never started a dedicated HT thread here, room is 14x22x8.5. More pics in my sig line.

Not a very good pictures, but I will post any way. Click on link labeled "Upstairs dedicated room" at the bottom of this post. Room is 11'-5 1/2" wide x 13'-5 1/2" deep with 8' ceiling. I have 12 sound panels and four bass traps in the room. The screen is 106" fixed frame. My equipment is remote mounted, so I only have speakers and projector in the room. Sound is very good in this room and since the speakers are all crossed at 100Hz, I have good headroom and dynamics. I did all of this on a tight budget and am using the following equipment:

Planar PD7130 DLP projector
HK 254 AVR
Kenwood 6 channel amp (125 wpc)
PHD 205 ATSC, NTSC & QAM tuner
Nady XA1100 (1,100 watt pro amp)
Behringer CX2310 crossover
Toshiba HD DVD player
Five RBH WM30 speakers (have 2 more if I decide to go 7.2)
6.3CF ported Shiva-X subwoofer (uses one channel of Nady XA1100)
2.0 CF sealed sub using two 10" NHT drivers (uses one channel of Nady XA1100)
Three 1.0 CF sealed subs using 10" NHT 116 drivers and 115 watt plate amps. (I cross my mains to these subs using the CX2310 covering 30Hz to 150Hz overlapped mains. Mains are crossed at 100Hz to free them up so that they have increased head room.)
Seating is an old leather love seat.

Up coming room changes:
1. Grills (on order) for small subs at front of the room.
2. Build and install AT screen (sample on order) and place center channel behind
screen.
3. Change theater seating to 4 rocker theater seats or 3 leather theater chairs.
Probably wait until Christmas for this.

Updated:
I know have my AT screen in place and grills on my front subwoofers. Here is the build thread for screen conversion: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1180610
Other than chairs I think I am done for awhile.

I guess you are never done. I added top and bottom horizontal masking to my screen using cable and pulleys so that the masks move together. Here is a picture with masking set to 2.40.

Here is the same picture over exposed so that you can see the masking. You can see the sound panels behind the screen.

Close up picture of the masking. Picture over exposed to show masking.

It's a small room (10x11) with two drop down screens (1.78:1 and 2.35:1) and a 52" flat screen. the ps3, A2 HDDVD, XBOX 360 and my computer can be viewed on either screen and the TV.

Cheers, Adam.

Great job! I am kinda in same situation as you. I have a 11x18 room that I am planning to convert into HT. I have couple of questions for you. When you open the door, does it not hit the speakers? I will be in same situation and I am thinking of moving the door by few feet or mirror the seating. Ideally I would like my screen by the entry door.

Also, how many inches is your screen from floor?

If anyone else wants to help out a noob here is my thread.

Nice room!
Everything you need. Nothing you don't. How do you manage the light from the window?

Thanks!
This picture was obviously taken during the day - as you can see there is a little bit of light coming in through the window. The blind are heavy wood, and the drapes are thick so when both are closed the room is pretty dark - sports and such are no problem. For the most part this is a "night time" theater.

I changed the front wall. I am now running three Klipsch RB-35's across the front. I built a couple stands to raise them up so that they match the center channel speaker. Center speaker height was determined by the masking panel in upper position (viewing wide screen movies). Here are pics of the new mains.

When the new Pro-10's come out I plan on switching the front three to those. I want to see what the 10" pro drivers in the Pro-10's can do for HT.

Thought I'd post my small Home theater build.

Here's mine. We moved and I had to set up the theater as soon as possible. The theater in my old house was only 9 X 11. This is a little bigger at about 14 X 15 but I think that still qualifies as a small Home theater.

I plan on replacing the painted screen and replace the sheet I have hanging that covers the opening in my wall with something nicer. Not that fancy but we love it.

Redid a bedroom into a small media room. HD70, 92" matte white screen, PS3, Expressvu HD, and HTIB which sounds quite good (in DTS) in a small room like this. Here are some pics, sorry for the subpar quality!! Since the pictures, I have added wall mounts for the back speakers so the can be angled downwards a bit. Cheers!
